I'd say 10% of HFT's make. HFT's were what daytraders were to the investment community 15 years ago. In the beginning it's free money. At some point their strategies get diluted and self cannibalize when everyone enters that game. The markets reflect the times. The wealthy are becoming a smaller fraction of the overall population.

Here is one of many "hows" I've posted on ET. This one is designed for consistently losing traders who believe stop hunters are out to get them and it's all because of HFT: 1. You feel a trade coming on. 2. You can't wait any longer. You figure out where your stop loss will go and you're ready to buy or sell. 3. DO NOT TRADE! If you were planning to sell and place a protective buy stop, place a limit order to sell at the buy stop price; if you were planning to buy and place a protective sell stop, place a limit order to buy at the sell stop price. 4. Once your order is lifted, place a stop loss the same distance away from your entry price as your initial stop loss was going to be. It's important that you are a consistent loser for this tactic to work to your advantage. If this tactic turns you into a consistently profitable trader, your brain patterns will change and you are at great risk for losing your edge
