Would you guess news feeds are more applicable to futures or equities?

The entertainment feeds like Ransquawk have a few customizable options (like a Equity feed, Regional feed, etc.).

The direct feeds have uses for everything (i.e. Nonfarm Payrolls release affects all the major asset classes).

I read the whole thread and really impressed by your knowledge about the industry! My question to you is, how did you get it started?

lil background here: I've been trading part time (have a daytime job) for many years and spend 6 years developed an auto strategy with FX, but since it's involved hedging (long/short at same time) the NFA/CFTC banned it on FX, so I am looking for a decent shop to autotrade the strategy on stocks and wondering what's your opinion on how to get it going? like any firm/shop/platform you would recommend? BTW, this is not HFT though.

    TIA

I wasn't aware of the FX hedging banning. From reading about it though, it was for your own good. Why would you want to be long/short the same product simultaneously?

When I started, anyone could get a job if you looked hard enough (and were willing to work odd shifts and go grunt work writing shell scripts all day). It's evolved since then obviously as HFT became more mainstream.

If you have an automated strategy and are just looking for financial backing there might be a few smaller firms willing to do so, depending on your background and the quality of your backtest results. I don't know of any specific ones off the top of my head, but there are a bunch of arcades that I've seen mentioned on these forums that other ET'ers would know better than I do. Maybe something like http://www.towerhilltrading.com/

Thanks hft for reply. I wasn't looking for financial backing, neither do I need any training :), just a reliable autotrade platform, more like a prop firm on the autotrade side. Looked into couple of retail platform (ninja, tradestation ), disappointed with the software (I am a programmer myself)... I guess, I will keep looking then.

Regarding the hedge, I am lil surprised that being a surrogate MM yourself, you don't believe hedging ? (you are doing it on a daily basis and making $ on it too:)

Any way, thanks a lot and looking forward to your new posts.

Yeah, I don't really understand the strategy either. What's the merit of being long and short the same product? Is it actually the same product or two similar products?

It's the same product, it's been argued to death on a million forex forums, actually, it's rather a good bullshitter indicator.

Hedging? I think what they intend to say is, "churning".

    hi HFT,
    Great thread.

I believe partial fills is one of the big aspects in Futures trading .

1.What are your thoughts on handling the partial fills on entry and exit ?

    2. Any possible solution eg. Order type / special logic / books/ articles etc can be looked into to address partial fills ?

    Thanks in advance.
