in this case the criminal had the right to defend himself. those dogs go straight for your nuts and one really should not be blamed for "resisting arrest"
they should not have. the dude consciously chose to rob those people and should be punished. but when he was attacked by the wild beast he operated purely by instinct. it is hard to expect the robber to rationalize his action while being castrated.

of course i want all dogs and officers be alive and healthy while criminals punished. but i don't particularly enjoy the idea that dogs are employed as uncontrolled lethal weapon. for all i know i could be at that store before the robbers and the dog accidentally mixed me up with them.
You have a point shortie; however, I wonder whether dogs are "uncontrolled lethal weapon" as they are supposed to be trained ones. By the way, even police officers can "accidentally mixed me up with them."
