  1. People doing physical labour should not be compensated 150k/year. I am glad USA is coming back to its roots. Where the skilled workers will be rewared for their 4 years spend in college/university. Not some high school dropout waiter.

  2. Wow, such ignorance. Have you ever done a day of physical labor in your life, let alone skilled physical labor?

The waiters make money on tips. Your average high school dropout waiter would never be able to get a job at those places, even if he knew someone.
They actually often pay the manager to even get a job there. In NYC 5 star restaurants, it's often expected that the job applicant slips $5-10k to get the job.

The waiters only make such money if they are good at what they do. For french service, you actually have to go to school and be certified. As silly as it sounds, on that level, they are professional waiters. When times are good, they do well, when times turn, they often suffer.

If you think it's such great money for little work, go get a job at Applebees or Denny's and watch the riches accumulate.

  3. What a shocker! Not as many people gamble during recessions! Who'd have thought? It can only be a sign of the future!

I'm getting sick of listening to you doomsayers. Go away.

  4. So much "cut and paste" BS on ET these days that more often than not, states the OBVIOUS. And most of it comes from the same 2 or 3 posters.

I'm beginning to wonder if someone gets a "bonus" from Baron if they get to 10,000 posts by Labor Day.

To everyone claiming this is a garden variety recession, cyclical in nature, and a return to pre-2005 levels is around the corner, you could not be more wrong.

The U.S. has changed in the most fundamental way since the 40's, and unlike then, it's for the far worse. Nearly every data point is trending the wrong way, pointing towards a shrinking, rather than rising, quality of life.

  6. bylo, we disagree, np.

can you answer how you plan on dealing with this worsening calamity? for instance; if you have properties, a business, or "trading"..what do you see happening to your own situation?

if you have none of these assets; then maybe you can tell me something you plan on doing to protect yourself?

  7. Why so? I'm sure you have well-documented reasons why.

  8. When i lived in Vegas 10 years ago I have a friend and she was a bus girl in Ceasars. The place if i remember right paid her min wage (which was 5.15 at the time) but she was pulling in 35k per year. At that time i remember her saying that the waiters that did banquets were making 100k. She had alot of stories about the whales that came in. One guy asked her to marry him and she thought he was joking so she said "wheres my ring" He went to the forum shops and bought a $40k ring for her. She didnt take it. Another guy offered to move her to South America somewhere with him and offered to pay for her schooling and give her anything she wanted if she would live with him. I asked her why she didnt do it and she said he was old and would probably want sex from her which she didnt want to give him.

I also knew some cocktail waitresses that pulling in quite a bit of money. At the stratosphere I knew a girl that brought in 500 per day on the weekends and about 200-300 per day during the week.

Some of the dealers at the casinos also made good money from whales. Kerry Packer came into the hilton one day. Dealers usually split tips and there are usually 100-200 dealers working per day. Anyway...he tipped so much one day that each dealer went home with 30k for that one day.
