I really don't have a problem with the VAT - IF it replaced the current income tax system (or at least exempted most from income tax). VAT = Political Suicide for Dems There is no way they could possibly pass a VAT. Look at how hard Americans are fighting against healthcare. It would literally make the Dems the minority party for two decades if they were to cram something like this down our throats.

Corps. from all over the world would have to domicile in the US to remain competitive.....and jobs would be produced such that there would be a shortage of workers.... What does the US govt. do...? Just the opposite..... And by doing so....tax revenues would explode to the upside.... Which is better .....70% of 1000.... or 15% of several $Trillion.... The US govt. Harvard Queens think that 70% of 1000 > 15% of several $Trillion.... The US govt. thinks that it is better to suppress human freedoms rather than enhance them.... You decide.....
There is little chance the Dems will support a VAT, because it will have a much larger impact on lower income people.
With tax revenues from capital gains, and from dividends, almost completely drying up, along with declining income tax revenues -- where else is the government going to get any money other than taxxing consumption directly?? The beast is rapidly starving itself, by having eaten all of the plants that could have provided the seeds for future growth.
