Help w/RAM

  1. How do I know what kind of RAM is installed on a laptop?

I Google the laptop type and I'm told it's either "PC2100 or PC2700 DDR SDRAM SODIMMs, depending on system's configuration."

Is there a way of knowing without having to open it up?

The purpose of course is to add more RAM and I need to know what kind to order.

    Thanks!

  2. Many such utilities. Start with the free CPU-Z from CPUID. Tiny process footprint, no need to install anything... see "Directions for use" on the above page. Make sure to look on the SPD tab as well as the Memory tab.

In case that doesn't do it (see last Q on the FAQ), bring out the heavy artillery and try Sandra from SiSoftware. The Lite version is free.

Incidentally, if you're ordering more RAM, how are you planning to install it, without having to open it up? ;)

  3. gnome

    gnome

Run a program such as Everest Home or SIW to get the specs on your RAM... like timings, voltage, etc. Buy some with the same specs.

Also, check to see the maximum amount of RAM your notebook's mobo can handle.
