Help! Name that album

  1. Ever have an old album you listened to as a child but can't remember the name of the band/songs etc? Here's all I can remember:

-- The band is most likely early to mid 70's, pseudo-political folk rock, not averse to using gimmicky effects like ambulance sirens and a dying man's heartbeat.

-- The album cover is a close-up of a hand in dirt, painted in the colors of the american flag.

-- One song is called "Revolution (something)" and the lyrics are just "U.S." repeated over and over.

-- One song is about a man called "old Hezekiah" (I think this one has the sirens/heartbeat effect).

That's about all the bits I can remember, google seems to be of no help. Any music buffs out there know this one?

  2. Google didn't have anything. I did an exhaustive search on a few search engines and nothing came up. So I am inclined to either believe this band is relatively obscure or perhaps a local band?

However, you may have better luck by going to www.allmusic.com. If you search by song titles and type in "revolution," you will see one page of results returned. You could follow each of them until something else rings a bell.

    Good luck.

  3. The only thing I can think of is the old Bob Dylan "Gaslight" bootlegs from 1961 - 1962. He did a few sets at the Gaslight cafe in NYC before he ever became famous. In fact, I think these bootlegs are some of the first known recordings of Bob Dylan at all. It's a bit obscure, but well known among his fan base and there's a high probability you could find it on a decent P2P network.

Anyway, that's my best guess but the reason I suspect that's what you're refering to is because he did a song called "Black Cross" about a man named Hezekiah. You can find it on the second recording (out of the three total gaslight tapes).

As far as the cover art and 'revolution' song you mentioned - I have no idea. There's a chance you're recalling a bootleg full of rare items from various artists that someone assembled - in which case you don't have a snowballs chance in hell of tracking it down. You'd have better luck finding your old highschool girlfriends mix tapes she made for you...

Hezekiah Jones lived in a place... in Arkansas.
He never had too much, except he had some land,
An' he had a couple of hogs and things like that.
    He never had much money
But he'd spend what he did make as fast as he made it,
So it never really mattered that he had much money.
But in a cupboard there, He kept in the cupboard... he kept in the cupboard books,
He called the books his "rainy season."

The white folks around the county there talked about Hezekiah...
They... said, "Well... old Hezekiah, he's harmless enough,
but the way I see it he better put down them goddam books,
Readin' ain't no good, for nigger is nigger."

One day the white man's preacher came around
Knockin' on doors, knockin' on all the doors in the county,
    He knocked on Hezekiah's door.
He says, "Hezekiah, you believe in the Lord?"
Hezekiah says, "Well, I don't know, I never really SEEN the Lord,
    I can't say, yes, I do..."

He says, "Hezekiah, you believe in the Church?"
Hezekiah says, "Well, the Church is divided, ain't they,
And... they can't make up their minds.
I'm just like them, I can't make up mine either."

He says, "Hezekiah, you believe that if a man is good Heaven is his last reward?"
Hezekiah says, "I'm good... good as my neighbor."

"You don't believe in nothin'," said the white man's preacher,
    You don't believe in nothin'!"
"Oh yes, I do," says Hezekiah,
"I believe that a man should be indebted to his neighbors
Not for the reward of Heaven or fear of hellfire."

"But you don't understand," said the white man's preacher,
"There's a lot of good ways for a man to be wicked..."

Then they hung Hezekiah high as a pigeon.
White folks around there said, "Well... he had it comin'
'Cause the son-of-a-bitch never had no religion!"

  5. On the floors of Tokyo
    A-down in London town's a go go
    A-with the record selection,
    And the mirror's reflection,
    I'm a dancin' with myself

A-when there's no one else in sight,
    A-in crowded lonely night
Well, I wait so long for my love vibration
    And I'm dancing with myself

    Oh oh. Dancing with a-myself,
    Oh, oh, dancing with myself
    Well, there's nothing to lose
And there's nothing to prove, well,
Dancing a-with myself, oh, oh, oh, oh.

If I looked all over the world
And there's ev'ry type of girl
But your empty eyes seem to pass me by
And leave me dancin' with myself.

    So let's sink another drink
'Cause it'll give me time to think
If I had the chance I'd ask one to dance
And I'll be dancin' with myself

    Oh oh. Dancing a-with myself,
    Oh, oh, dancing with myself
    Well, there's nothing to lose
And there's nothing to prove, well,
    Dancing a-with myself,

    Oh, oh, oh.
Oh, oh oh oh, oh oh, oh oh oh, oh oh...

Well if I looked all over the world
And there's ev'ry type of girl
But your empty eyes seem to pass me by
And leave me dancin' with myself.

    So let's sink another drink
'Cause it'll give me time to think
If I had the chance I'd ask one to dance
And I'll be dancin' with myself

    Oh oh. Dancing a-with myself,
    Oh, oh, dancing with myself
If I had the chance I'd ask one to dance
If I had the chance I'd ask one to dance
If I had the chance I'd ask one to dance
    Oh, oh, oh, oh oh.
Oh, oh, oh Dancin' with myself.
Oh, oh, dancin' with myself, oh, oh,
    Sweat, sweat, etc.

sHow me show me how ya dO that trik!

how me how you do that trick
The one that makes me scream" she said[/b
"The one that makes me laugh" she said
And threw her arms around my neck
"Show me how you do it
And I promise you I promise that
    I'll run away with you
    I'll run away with you"
    Spinning on that dizzy edge
I kissed her face and kissed her head
And dreamed of all the different ways I had
    To make her glow
"Why are you so far away?" she said
"Why won't you ever know that I'm in love with you
That I'm in love with you"

    You
    Soft and only
    You
    Lost and lonely
    You
    Strange as angels
    Dancing in the deepest oceans
    Twisting in the water
    You're just like a dream

    Daylight licked me into shape
I must have been asleep for days
And moving lips to breathe her name
    I opened up my eyes
    And found myself alone alone
    Alone above a raging sea
That stole the only girl I loved
And drowned her deep inside of me

    You
    Soft and only
    YouLost and lonely

    You
    [szie=4]Just like heaven[/size]

That Hezekiah fellow was a very wise man.

Don't know if that is the song to which you refer, but those are amazing lyrics.
