Help me buy a new car (and what about cars and gender?)

  1. Gee Max, you seem to think that about a lot of people:)

I happen to understand your point, however. There was certainly a degree of hesitation about this car at first due to the styling. Certainly, the rear end seemed "unfinished" to me when I first saw the car a few months ago.

But it has kind of grown on me. Is it as stylish and as aesthetically pleasing as the Z8/Alpina? Hah.......It's also almost $100k less, so there's a bit of a trade off.

But, since styling is just subjective anyway, (although I think it would be hard to argue about the front end of the car being just beautiful), this car is really about performance and handling.

    And it does both amazingly.

Things I don't like about it....small trunk, but my golf clubs fit (barely) and someone forgot to mention physics to whoever decided to put the cupholders on the outer reaches of the cockpit instead of towards the center where there would be less bounce and sway. But who's gonna eat and drink in this car? But other than the placement of the cupholders, the whole interior is exactly right IMO. One thing that sort of matters to me that seems bothersome, is whenever you turn off the ignition, you go back to having nothing on when you re-start. You need to turn the A/C back on for example every time. I am not sure if this is common to all BMW's. Also, there is no indicator light to let you know if cruise control is on. (Certainly not a necessity, but I have never seen this before).

Things I do like about the car....motor, suspension, auto folding top, interior, instrumentation, clutch (whole transmission), Sport Package (changes steering, throttle and suspension characteristics with the touch of one button), stability control system (really amazing). And most of all, just good old QUALITY! (fit and finish...that kind of thing..not a hint of anything tinny, squeaky or "cheap").

Oh, and one last thing...even though I got the smaller engine, the car is a rocket!!!! I mean, you turn off the Stability Control, and you can leave rubber in 3 gears (wouldn't want to...I am in no hurry to replace 17" run-flat tires).

So Max, have the designer shot. Meanwhile, I will be having a blast driving a great car.

When you finally come down to look at land here and have lunch/dinner on me, you can drive the car and THEN tell me what you think!!!!

    Peace,
    :)RS

  7. :):):)

Max, when are you coming down?

  8. Down? How do you know I don't live in the Keys?

  9. OK, so in that case up. Or across, or whatever the case may be.

But I have always had this mental image of you living in a basement. There are no basements in the Keys.

Of course my pre-conceptions have often been wrong before. Anything is possible. I accept that.

So, if you are indeed in the Keys, say hi to Bob and Cathy

    And:
    Peace, and good fishing,

  10. RS,

Well done, I'm sure you will like it. So there is room in the trunk for a set of clubs? I'm guessing two bags are out of the question. The Z3 trunk was a joke. Might as well have a motorcycle. Somehow I have trouble with the notion of a sports car with a straight 6 engine. The Austin Healy 3000 had one though, didn't it?
