Probably too many apps and/or charts. FWIW... I've been using eSignal and MetaStock for YEARS.. and I never have had the problems posters complain of during fast markets. If one is having such problems... have you tried running 2 computers to divide the load? Easy to do with a router, you know.
Thanks, JD7419. So you are saying that what I am suggesting is possible, but not optimal. I was going to ask about potential problems or issues next, so thanks for addressing that in adavance. As for your other suggestion, I will be working exclusively with equities - stocks and etfs. So it seems I cannot go with the set up you recommend. Is there any consensus on a good alternative to E-Signal for equities? To make the cut as a good alternative, a good reputation for not crashing/locking up/or lagging is a must. Any such animal - or is this a pipe dream?
If it really has to do with the eSignal charting app being too slow while the data-manager delivering ticks on time, like a poster above implies, one way to test this is to compare the eSignal charting to Neoticker. Neoticker has a 1 month free demo and native eSignal support, and it is designed to handle a large number of symbols.
Trump, I assume you are going to be daytrading? If you are you will want futures quotes as well as stocks, etfs right? If you really don't want futures quotes then go with dnq feed with sierra or ensign for a cheaper alternative to esignal. Through my testing last week esignal is superior to dtniq in speed most of the time(except for the annoying lock ups). Anyway all platforms have their plus/minuses. If you have about $800 a month to spend get cqg.
Yes, DAX is the only market that I trade. The book is about the same as russel. Based on all replies, it seems that it is the esignal front end which is the cause of delays, not data manager. It would be nice if those who trade ES and expereince dalays, would plug the feed into Ninja and report back findings. Regards, redduke
JD7419 Thank you - very helpful. Re: the stock futures, I will be concentrating on the relative performance of etf/holder sectors mostly and stocks somewhat. Some trades will be day trades, some position trades. So super crisp accuracy with the S&P 500 futures or E-Minis is not a priority. Following the SPY or the DIA is enough for me. Being able to handle spreads and baskets cleanly and accurately is more important. I did a quick scan of Ensign's site, looks good. Again, thanks a lot. Very Very Helpful.
Duke, When I have my quote board set up on esingal it is a list of futures contracts, stocks, stats with their name, net change, and price. This is what I want from zen fire the net change. I watch this like a hawk all day long when I trade stocks. I called amp and they told me that the net change can not be displayed at this time (eta 3-4 weeks). If you can set up a quote montage with net change please point me in the right direction. Thanks.
