You can prevent more loss by selling your position exactly the same as by "hedging" with an opposite position. There is absolutely no benefit, none at all, to this "hedging" over just simply selling the open position.
Maybe any trader that use hedging they have reason if movement pair will always up and down and they will open lock hedging on time when they can analyze the trend clearly, but indeed sometime that occur after open lock hedging still fail and making loss more
