Actually Tim never claimed to be a great trader--in fact he admits that here: But I am looking forward to hearing his thoughts on microcaps because for all his arrogance, he's done pretty well for nearly a decade. My question to Tim is how much of your recent losses is due to CYGT and how much is due to losses from short selling?
No, he did very well for 2 years (when everyone else was crushing it too). His performance from 99-01 was done by many traders in every trading shop across the country. Over the last 4 years, he's drastically underperformed almost every major index in the world (and when you take into account the tiny amount of AUM, it seems even worse).
Again, the book is better read as a 'troubled birth of a new business' story. Imagine that instead of a $1.5m fund, he sank $1.5m into buying a country store and fixing it up (as did a guy down the street from me). Then everyone would read it 'the right way'. If the chuckleheads who've dissed him for the past 40 e'trader pages were to actually RTFB instead of guessing at its contents, all this would be clear.
That's my point fifi. Why on earth would tim cry to have it removed, so now it is just subject to speculation ? I'm sure my figures are not totally accurate, they're from memory. if the kid had half a brain he would have kept those figures on this board so there is no confusion.
For the sake of accuracy: 2007 7.43% $1.11 million 2006 25.83% $1.21 million 2005 23.56% $2.77 million 2004 20.36% $1.29 million 2003 6.06% $1.06 million Total Return: 8.29% Compound Annual Return: 1.89% Worst Drawdown: 37.07%
So he had one good year. The two negative years cover the other two positives. 1 out of 5, oh boy! No wonder he's taking the book deals and crap t.v. series. Get your 15 while it's still hot Tim! Good Luck!
Thanks for the numbers Atticus. Who would give this guy money to trade with? It should be clear to everyone why he wouldn't post his returns, and why he cried to Baron to get them removed.
They certainly don't seem that great. Not enough to write a book about. Hell, I've done far better than that over those years, but I don't have quite the AUM...yet. Good luck to all.
