I know this is amusing - people littering at the Earth Day marathon.

As someone who volunteers at local races to hand out water, let me point out the reality. The water is set up on tables with cups that we hand to runs. Just downstream of the station most runners throw the cups on the ground so they can keep their pace. Even when we have garbage pails out it is difficult for most runners to get it in the can while running.

After the race, the water crew picks up every single one of those cups and disposes of them properly. Not missing a single one. This is part of the expectations at a water station for a race.

The modern rise that has recreated the temperatures of 5,000 years ago is occurring at an exceedingly rapid clip on a geological time scale, appearing in graphs in the new paper as a sharp vertical spike. If the rise continues apace, early Holocene temperatures are likely to be surpassed within this century, Dr. Marcott said.

Dr. Mann pointed out that the early Holocene temperature increase was almost certainly slow, giving plants and creatures time to adjust. But he said the modern spike would probably threaten the survival of many species, in addition to putting severe stresses on human civilization.

“We and other living things can adapt to slower changes,” Dr. Mann said. “It’s the unprecedented speed with which we’re changing the climate that is so worrisome.”

  6. Let's look at the bright side.

Global warming has proven that scientists will lie.

And that's something we can all be settled on.

  7. No it hasn't. Deluded right wingers think so but really no, they have not lied. Why do YOU and the other ignorant deluded right wingers keep lying?

Eight committees investigated the allegations and published reports, finding no evidence of fraud or scientific misconduct.[15] The scientific consensus that global warming is occurring as a result of human activity remained unchanged by the end of the investigations.[17]

  9. I've been wondering why people use cold weather as some kind of refutation of global warming.

It would be easier if they just come out and say that they are idiots, are proud of it and so will continue to cite cold weather as an argument against global warming. Maybe they should just wear an "I'm an idiot" hat. But of course we know that about anyone denying AGW already.

If they did that, FC, how would they get a reaction from you?
