"Only 23% of americans have more than $100k in savings. If you are 70 years old and you want to leave something to your children/grandchildren, its a good option to have. "
why don't you respond to what you wrote

i already explained that 70 year old americans are covered by medicare/medicaid.

why would he go to india? he doesn't need that option. you avoided responding.

it might be worthwhile for a younger american who has no insurance but under obamacare he will be forced to have insurance or pay a penalty. if he is poor there is nothing to talk about as he doesn't have 100k in the 1st place.

why don't you explain under what circumstances an american would need to go to india for a heart operation.

    i doubt you can.

  3. Like you said...if you have more than $2k in cash, you cant get medicaid, so nothing to talk about there.

Medicare doesnt pay for everything. On average it pays for about 48%(although I heard somewhere for heart surgery they pay for as much as 80%). If he has extra coverage to cover the rest, then yeah, he probably doesnt need to go to india.

So to answer your question....under what circumstanaces an american would need to go to India for a heart operation was if he was going to pay significantly more out of pocket. Just to add a note, its probably in the best interest of all Americans that he goes to India for his heart surgery if he is on medicare/medicaid because even though he is not paying for his heart surgery in America, YOU are paying for it with your taxes. If everyone on medicare/medicaid having heart surgery went to india for it, it would save taxpayers about $20-30 billion per year.

But if something bad happens in America, you can sue for 100 billion. haha.

of course, it's case-by-case. if you are financially strapped and hospitals won't accept you, then of course go to India.

I also wonder about air quality after surgery, and how long you should recover in india before flying home. also diet that your body is used to. etc...

it is nice that india provides an option.

"Like you said...if you have more than $2k in cash, you cant get medicaid, so nothing to talk about there."

i never said the above. the law is riddled with exceptions.

" If everyone on medicare/medicaid having heart surgery went to india for it, it would save taxpayers about $20-30 billion per year"

statement is hypothetical nonsense. it will never happen.

  9. Of course it will never happen...when someone else is footing the bill, you don't care about what THEY are paying for YOUR medical costs.

The fact remains the same...people are paying 10 times too much for heart surgery when its proven that it can be done for much cheaper.

Why dont you ask how come it cost us $100k and in india it costs $1.5k? Where is the other $98,500 going? Maybe building rent and doctors taking less pay accounts for a small amount of it, but it certainly isnt $98,500.

    cheaper means deflation
and you know we must avoid it at all costs. Deflation is evil
can you imagine if prices for heart surgery go from 100k to 2 k
    we would be in depression
