So you can pay $1500 and have a doctor from India perform the heart surgery in India, or you can pay $100,000 and have a doctor from India perform the heart surgery near your home. Yeah, if you have plenty of cash to burn, why not do it here, but most don't have that much. Only 23% of americans have more than $100k in savings. If you are 70 years old and you want to leave something to your children/grandchildren, its a good option to have. I just did some quick research and it seems that in India, the success rate of heart surgery is between 98-99%. In the US its almost exactly the same. Within .1 to .5 of a percent. So I have to ask...is .1 to .5% chance better of survival(keep in mind you'll probably be dead anyway in the next 10 years) worth an extra $98,500 when you've saved your WHOLE life for that money?
People assume wrong when they think the US has great doctors and or hospitals. Obviously we do, but the norm are doctors who couldn't give a rats ass about you and hospitals aren't to far behind. Some perform surgeries they know patients can do without and are also often very negligent in the way they conduct those surgeries.....sorry I saw this on TV the other day..lol Also if the choice is a new heart or leaving behind money so my wife can enjoy with her new boy toy...Im picking me up a heart
you talk as if you get off the plane there is a red carpet awaiting you are whisked off the surgery center. a few days later you are back to the states. all is well for $1500. there is a whole bunch of costs which are not covered by the $1500 +the aggravation of being medically treated in a 3rd world country. as to the statistics you mentioned they are probably worthless since they are not comparable because they are gathered with different procedures and standards. "If you are 70 years old and you want to leave something to your children/grandchildren, its a good option to have. " invalid. most american retirees are covered by medicare/medicaid.
The medical industry and medical insurance industry has created an elite society for itself and I think they will do everything they can to keep the wealth of Americans pouring into their bank accounts. They are just another part or our country's transfering of wealth to the top.
Sorry, I thought you could figure it out if you just tried a little bit. My point was that the other guys numbers were likely wrong. Sorry I gave you too much credit for thinking you could figure that out.
Ok, lets say total costs (plane tickets, ambulance, ect) run you 10 times as much for a total of $15k Ok, now lets say I offered YOU $85,000 to fly to India and hang out in a room for a week or two. Would you do it or would that be too much aggravation? I rest my case.
Damn are you guys on the right taking lessons on how to be condescending or is this some contest y'all are having?
