HealthCare Reform: What Would Ronald Reagan Do?

  1. HealthCare Reform: What Would Ronald Reagan Do?

When legislation that would become Medicare was introduced in 1961, Reagan created a recording for the AMA warning that such legislation (Medicare) would mean the end of freedom in America. Reagan said that if his listeners did not write letters to prevent it, "we will awake to find that we have so_cialism. And if you don't do this, and if I don't do it, one of these days, you and I are going to spend our sunset years telling our children, and our children's children, what it once was like in America when men were free."

Reagan endorsed the campaign of conservative presidential contender Barry Goldwater in 1964. Speaking for Goldwater, Reagan stressed his belief in the importance of smaller government. He revealed his ideological motivation in a famed speech delivered on October 27, 1964: "The Founding Fathers knew a government can't control the economy without controlling people. And they knew when a government sets out to do that, it must use force and coercion to achieve its purpose

  2. At his high school graduation, his father introduced himself by saying, "My name is Ronald Reagan. What's yours?". He replied, "I'm your son, Mike."

  3. Your memory of Reagan is quite selective.

Reagan's famous phrase "There you go again" was the response he gave to Carter in 1980 when he was criticized for his Medicare stand. He responded that he was indeed in favor of Medicare.

MR. REAGAN: "There you go again! When I opposed Medicare, there was another piece of legislation meeting the same problem before the Congress. I happened to favor the other piece of legislation and thought that it would be better for the senior citizens and provide better care than the one that was finally passed. I was not opposing the principle of providing care for them. I was opposing one piece of legislation versus another. There is something else about Social Security. Of course, it doesn't come out of the payroll tax. It comes out of a general fund, but something should be done about it. I think it is disgraceful that the Disability Insurance Fund in Social Security finds checks going every month to tens of thousands of people who are locked up in our institutions for crime or for mental illness, and they are receiving disability checks from Social Security every month while a state institution provides for all of their needs and their care."

  4. Easy question. Answer - Cut taxes and raise spending and blame it on the Communists and/or terrorists.

  5. LOL:D

I don't if that's true or not but that still hilarious.

    :D

  6. There were two Medicares occurring at the same time? This looks like he favored something else OVER Medicare...

    What is your point?

  7. Specterx

    Specterx

The first answer is probably, nothing.

Forced to act, he'd implement a health-insurance tax credit, and pay for it with borrowed money.

  8. Rank of worst performing administrations by real, per capita, debt adjusted growth in GDP, since WWII, annualized:

Bush I: -6.27% (that's a big minus sign, in case you missed it)
    Bush II: -4,03%
    Reagan: -3.25%

  9. Oh boy. There was no other Medicare bill that could have passed.

    Let's go over politics 101.

If you really want to kill a legislation but you don't want to take the political heat for it, you say "We have a better plan", but you really don't. Or you say, we are studying it carefully. This is basically what the health care reform position has been for the Republicans for the last 60 years - they claim they have been studying it and making better plans.

In this manner, should the result of the law turned out to be bad, they say: "see, it was a mistake, we told you so.". If the result is good and popular, they say: "gosh, we were for the other reform bill, which would have been so much better".

  10. I smile and laugh at the Clowns who bash Regan, and basic Capitalisim on this site, those of you who rally around Obama..

Your beds have been made. I can continue to make more and more money to pay for all you assclowns. No problem, I'm just gona have to raise more money for our Private Placements and increase my income. No Problem.

Today, as I talked to clients and potential clients, I heard more wealthy individuals say they are gona liquidate everything that goes on a Schedual E. All investments that pay "Rent", Dividins, Capital Gains,. They will be buying more Bonds (Not being effected by the 3.9% surecharge Obama Care is adding to investments.) more shares in Domestic Drilling projects and putting more money back into their companies, all the while, paying out themselves less...they are gona keep most of their wealth in their own companies, untouched by the IRS.

More and more of you clowns will lose your jobs. But hey, I'll pay for your "Gubment Health Care" because I can afford my health plan.

Yep, 2011 capital gains hits 20% plus the 3.9% effect as of today will bring it to 23.9% for long term capital gains Tax.

Yep, those of us who pull down over 200k a year will pay for your goberment Med. No worries. But we can still afford out cars, vacations, homes, spend money on Big Boy Toys and have a grand time. I will stop giving to charity and give to Animal Shelters. Dogs need money more than you sorry ass liberals.

CAT's warning that 100 million will be added to their cost in the first year of Obamacare.....well that sounds like layoffs soon to come next quarter.

NY just said it will have to lay of 19000 people from their capital, goberment workers. How said.

I'm armed, I'm ready for Class Warfare. Obama is gona make me a Ton of Money in the next three years.....and I have no problem paying for you freeloaders. Because you will not have the opportunity to climb the hill to wealth. Game over for you 'Wana' be ballers and players.

    Welcome to ObamaLand.

Next stop....GLOBAL WARMING. I say, bring it on. Oil will hit 200 and Nati will hit 15, to 20 once the Obama clan passes their Carbon Tax.. I have plenty of clients in wells that are pumping and money is pouring it. Hell, I have a few shares of my own in producing wells.. ....

So, Please, Ask what Regan would do. Because all I can say is Bye Bye Middle Class.
