    Let us not forget that we are not looking at the specific result of economic policy or legislation passed during any one presidency but a composite result of U.S. administrations and outside forces and events over many years.

    Certainly there are specific acts that may be attributed to specific presidents that did prove later to have a major impact, sometimes years after they were out of office, but the current economic picture is always a composite, and a reflection of the power of massive economic inertia relative to that of any one individual, even a President or a Central Bank Chairman.

    Nevertheless, there is some reasonableness and validity in the politicians question: "Are you better off now than you were four (eight) years ago?"
