Have you used dbphoenix's teachings to become a successful trader?

  1. VP,

You are trying again to turn this into a wide ranging discussion including motivation and asking me what I think of people I have zero interest in.

I'm not warning anyone off, I don't have a problem with SLA-AMT, I have a single point on which I disagree with the guru. Look above and you will see I clarified that.

As for calling him a guru, he behaves like one and has bunch of followers ever ready to leap to his defence. Cult mentality.

Because those who are not stupid benefit from the explanations and clarifications. At some point, though, all the explanations and clarifications have been made and there's no point in continuing.

It was right there in the post you replied to: Andrews' median lines. Greg Fisher did a doctoral thesis about it, entitled "Using median lines as a trading tool". It's freely available. The Modified-Schiff median line is especially interesting in the context of this thread, because it's just another way of describing what @dbphoenix calls the SLA and its median.

You raise two valuable points for me.

First, I'm not actually searching for an entity to follow or a ready-made instruction set. I don't know why anyone would be, but I suppose some want shortcuts or "sure things" in life... I'm more self-reliant. I've been on and off trading for a long time now, and I'm merely developing my first serious trading plan, gathering possible bits of useful information along the way, testing to see what's for me and what's not. I take full responsibility for my trading, and back/forward testing will be my ultimate guide.

Second, prop firms... I've been advised that it's not worth the effort "nowadays". I wouldn't want to move to the USA for many months anyway, at least not this year, and I haven't found much of interest around where I live. It'd be neat though, but I question the necessity in my specific case.

  4. I never engaged with you in the first place. Like a pet dog eager to please its master, you started yapping. Now that you will stop, we can all get on with our lives.

Such hostility and impatience... Either ignore someone or be polite. Name calling is juvenile and is a disservice to all involved.

Honestly I think you have it backwards: @dbphoenix doesn't seem to be self-appointed in that position of authority which you perceive. That some people tend to cling onto someone they consider to be a mentor for convenience or lack of skepticism is human nature. This guy started sharing his experience around 2002, had some success and naturally attracted questions from others who wanted to know more. I haven't seen blatant claims of ultimate expertise or disparaging of other trading methods coming from him.

That some of the people interested in what he has to say may (and I haven't seen this first-hand) be naive and credulous doesn't make him a guru.

  6. Despite my best efforts to not engage with you, you keep quoting me and telling me what to do, like some self appointed den mother.

Before I become really rude to you, do us all a favour. Drop this.

  8. Speaking for yourself again, how nice.

I'm here because I want to be. I'm happy to discuss our point of disagreement with you, I have no interest in doing so with anyone else.

You are not the OP, this is not your thread, it is not a journal and you are not a mod.

    Whatever makes you happy.

I should point out again that the trading is going on at TL. So anyone who's interested in something other than reading arguments with trolls may want to segue over there.

  10. LOL! Does this look like scholarly research to you? http://www.median-line-study.com/median-line-books-html/ Please provide a link to the actual peer reviewed paper-- I can't seem to find it, nor can I find any credentials on Greg fisher who seems to have ripped off anther TA crank from the 1960's surf
