MLM, same mindset: Random, anything can happen, winning attitudes, exploiting an edge, number game, predictability in large samples.
This is the second time we have seen golf as a comparison to trading. I disagree. Trading is coral snakes, and Ren & Stimpy. That's about it.
There are a lot of similarities to Poker. It is a game of chance that, if you rely on chance, or dreams or wishful thinking, will cost you a lot of money. It is a game where experience, study, skill, and smarts are needed to stay afloat. It is a game where money and risk management will help you live to trade another day. It is a game where playing emotionally will shrink your bankroll faster than smoking crack. It is a game full of both weak and strong players, and the strongest players generally take most of the cookies away from the table leaving the donks to wonder what the hell just happened. The big difference is the degree to which you can pick the players you are up against. In Poker, when I realize I am at a table loaded with hardcore pros or really tough amateurs, I can walk away and wait for an easier table. In trading I can't do that directly, only get out of a play that I can see is going against me, and quit for the day if I am not running strong. TBH I don't think I have what it takes to play Poker for a living. Trading may prove to be slightly easier. But it is close. Lessons learned at Poker sometimes carry over well into trading. Especially regarding bankroll/account management.
Wow Mr. @GrowleyMonster, I just read this thread and wish I had seen it before. I started a thread this morning here in ET that is "right up your alley" Check it out: Poker-- Has Your Knowledge of Poker improved our trading profits? Will try and find the link..
I don’t think so we can compare it with anything . Trading is purely exclusive . Has got its own features like risk , observation , reward , uncertainties , gains , losses etc . For those comparing it with a game and results of the game to be money , the point is somewhat justified . But the amount of knowledge , skill and expertise one requires for trading is far more than required in a game.
You are saying this AFTER traders posted a bunch of different things. But sure, you don't have to agree with them. Poker is an obvious answer. I always thought hunting is like swing trading. You are sitting there for long period of time waiting for your set up, then the animal (the price) comes you take a shot (limit order) if you miss (not filled) the shot you might quickly take another ones (adjust your order). Once it is filled you are still there waiting another long period for the strategy to play out.
Overnight Are you sure it was a coral snake? There is an almost look alike that is harmless. How to tell the difference. A memory aid helps. His colors are black red and yellow. The aid? If black touches yellow he's a harmless little fellow. If black touches red if he bites you you're dead! The aren't usually aggressive and I didn't know they were sea snakes especially in Ohau.
