this is mostly bullshit. actually, its quite sickening bull shit. every muslim in the west is outraged by the majority of these incidents. as for the easten muslims, well we never get to hear what their response is do we? all you mean to say is NO FUNDAMENTALIST OUTRAGE. the truth seems to be that in the usa muslim press like al-jazeera is pretty much banned. this is called PROPAGANDA!!! you are believing exactly what THEY WANT YOU TO BELIEVE. also, you forget that some countries have different belief structures and different ideas of what is right and wrong. it is these differing philosophical ideas of what is right and wrong between countries (especially usa & islam) that causes so much tension. most (but not all) in the states are just too fucking thick to see this, let alone get their tiny inbred red-neck heads around such an idea as different concepts as right and wrong. i love the way you bring up a palestinian incident. how about this... israel create ghetto, cut off water supplies, murder children, bulldoze communities - no jewish outrage. does this mean all jews are shits? no. i know that many jews ARE outraged by the acts of isreal, but do you get to hear about them? probably getting towards one of the more intelligent observations here, but still shows how much bullshit is believed by bushs propaganda machine. the fact is that most muslims are not fundamentalists, or support them. education in the west is needed just as badly as in the east. it is easier to hate what is different than understand it.
They are not right-liberals either, they are dittoheads. They support whatever their party and/or Bush tells them to support, they may easily support today what they strongly opposed yesterday (nation building for example) and feel no contradiction or discomfort about it.

Expect to see this schism, which initially appeared after the Miers nomination, to continue to widen. The Republican party is comprised of four main factions: the opportunity society/low tax, economic conservatives; the family values/religious right; the national security/national sovereignty conservatives; and the country club republicn/republican establishment/big business crowd. The first three groups see nothing to be gained by blindly supporting Bush as he betrays their principles. As Pat Buchanan noted, people who have believed the adminsitration's war on terror rhetoric see the ports deal as indefensible madness, just as they regard the de facto open borders policy. The parallel universe occupied by the establishment republicans views this type of deal as business as usual, part and parcel of the free trade mentality that sees nothing alarming about enormous trade deficits, an increasingly assertive China and nuclear proliferation. Seen in this light, the administration's PR problems are not the result of poor communications but instead the inevitable fallout from a series of internally contradictory and inconsistent strategies.
Wanted to take just a minute to go over an earlier comment - justifying invading Iraq to eliminate Saddam's genocide (real or imagined, kind of like WMD's). The Church (let's say most of the 'large-scale' religions claiming Christ) did indeed ignore Hitler, and Mussolini's and the Japanese Emperor's, genocidal ways. But, the church/people that should have been 'speaking-up' and taking their lumps were the 'native' (quasi-official) institutions - the Lutheran establishment and the entire super-structure in Rome during those time periods. But no, they 'rolled-over' for both of these demonic leaders. Why should we, or any other nation, attempt to correct these situations when the people upon whose support these tyrants depend (or coerce) will not attempt to do what seems to be humanly right? That's the mistake we're making in Iraq 'this time'. Under Bush-1, our 'allies' (oil-producers) were genuinely threatened (and/or over-run), to protect them and ourselves, we acted (whether 'right or wrong'). Our arguments this time are much weaker, and weakening by the day and body-bag!

I continue to hope that is true, but when all you hear are crickets chirping from the supposed moderates when atrocities occur, it's hard not to lose faith.

Well, you must have access to better information that I do, because I have been waiting for an organized and unequivocal effort on the part of moderate Muslims to condemn Muslim atrocities since 9/11. As hap says, when all you hear is silence, it's very hard to keep on giving people the benefit of the doubt. If you can provide us with some links that illustrate an organized, national and/or international protest by moderate Muslims, I would appreciate it.
