Haunting description of Detroit from Ayn Rand

  1. If you want to get ahead in the world, at a minimum you need to speak and write proper English.... you need to be able to do basic math.

If you don't "bother" to learn any of that, what the HELL do you expect out of life? (If your speech and writing communication are ignorant and you can't do even basic "cipher'n" [Jethro Bodine], how can you expect to get a job even in the mail room?? With all the Affirmative Action BS, the world bends down to kiss you feet if you're even minimally competent ... how do you think Odumbo got promoted to where he is, sadly?)

All of the minority "ne'er do wells" never bother to do even the minimum.

I can't feel sorry for them... I gotta SUPPORT/PAY for them (so says "Odumbo Law") ... but not liking it in the least... I don't feel sorry for those who won't help themselves.

  2. What's wrong with Detroit pretty well summed up.
City is beyond broke...they're worried about little Tray.

Local politicians stole as much as they could, blew the rest on non-sense...now demand a bailout.

Monica Conyers, wife of "esteemed" congressman John is a pristine example of how the city was run.

Why are the people of Detroit illiterate? Their leaders stole all the money for education, but leftists always cry, it's all about the children.

One can go on and on about Detroit and the radical left will excuse it all and blame the Nixon years, or some other just as irrelevant circumstance or person. They need more money. It will be different this time. Promise.

Detroit's proximity to productive land, fresh water, and developed infrastructure just about guarantees the city will not die. Even as we discuss the city, its core is gentrifying. With diversification of its economy it will not only survive, but revive. To the height of its auto-centric glory? Maybe not. That's a good thing.

  4. Did this proximity to land and water not exist before? The existing infrastructure is in such a sad state it would be cheaper to bulldoze the entire city and start over.
For the sake of argument we accpet your premise about all the city has going for it, one thing remains. Corrupt and incompetent city officials and politicians and the morons who vote for them. They aren't going anywhere, so the situation remains the same. We can pour billions back into that city and in 5 years it will be a shithole all over again, for the exact same reason it's a shithole today.

Yes they did. My point is that there are strong geographic, biologic, and cultural factors which "encourage" a city in that place. As for the infrastructure, some of it will no doubt be demolished and replaced, but you also have to consider all the infrastructure leading to the city--it's a path of least resistance for future development at that site.

As for management of the city, I agree, that will have to change. Hopefully the future holds city government with the city's interests first. Fairly laughable, since you rarely find that at any administrative unit above the family/small town.

Lol, but not lol at the same time. Is there ANY reason why Detroit should survive financially after the outlandish shit they've pulled, and gotten away with thanks to parasites who are sadly allowed to vote? Sad part, is this will be what America looks like very soon unless we have some REAL change...
Both parties are obviously broken, and more harm than good. Either America decides to vote in common sense, for a change, we can turn the lights on America going forward.:(

  9. Detroit will be back. Whites will be running it though.

A whiteman was about to be elected mayor, but they were able to keep his name off of the ballot, except as a write in candidate, because of residency issues.

At this point the State of Michigan, under Gov. Snyder will make most decisions for the City...along with the Bankruptcy judge.

There is no reason Windsor, Canada or Detroit suburbs should have any Auto manufacturing.

It is only because Detroit Government was clueless on what was happening.
