Has a Dow Jones index component ever gone bankrupt?

    How does an oil company go bankrupt for crying out loud?

    Mismanagement, perhaps?

    LEH was a Dow Jones Financial Services component, you did not say DJIA.

    How does any company go bankrupt? They were spending more than they were bringing in. You do realize that oil hasn't alway traded above $145/bbl and gasoline hasn't always been $3-4/gallon?

    Look at the oil bust of the 80's. That market was decimated.
