Buttigieg is unlikely to be picked as the Democratic V.P. candidate. Kamala Harris will pragmatically go with a governor of a swing state in order to boost her chances in the electoral college vote.

However by being vetted and considered for the spot, Pete Buttigieg's stock is rising and he may land up with a more important cabinet position in the Harris administration (if she is elected) in my opinion.

‘We all realize it’s unlikely.’ But Pete Buttigieg’s VP stock is rising.
He has taken heat in his role in the Biden administration. But to some Harris advisers, he makes an intriguing pitch.

Mark Kelly flew to DC yesterday. The Senate is not in session.

Yes, this came up on our local stations as a special alert a little while ago.

Considering some other candidates were invited to meet directly with Kamala and I do not believe Roy Cooper was --- it probably an indication that he is being proactive about getting out of the "race" before the selected V.P. candidate is announced. This probably will keep other political options open for Roy Cooper (he is term limited as governor); he may run for Senate or take a position in the Democratic administration if Kamala wins.

Any chance I can convince you to take this a bit further, and... say Harris is toxic to other Democrats?

Actually... as some follow-up... Roy Cooper has been very focused on running for the U.S. Senate in 2026 to represent North Carolina. In polling match-ups he is likely to win that race (note Roy has won every political race he has entered in North Carolina). He stated that this was not the right time to put his family and himself through in-depth scrutiny over a few month period while he still was trying to complete work before ending his second term as governor. It is becoming clear that Roy Cooper was never interested in the Vice Presidential role, the potential selection surprised him and it is likely (or speculated) that he did not even return the background check material.

I'll take that as a "NO, I won't say Harris is toxic".
