Israel-Hamas war: IDF uncovers 1,500 Hamas tunnels, continues 'deepening the fight' https://www.foxnews.com/live-news/december-19-israel-hamas-war Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari gave a briefing Tuesday on the latest developments with the Israel-Hamas war. During the press conference, Hagari said that the Israeli military is "deepening the fight against Hamas's strongholds." "Our forces are fighting above and below ground. Since the beginning of the ground operation in the Gaza Strip, IDF forces have discovered approximately 1,500 terrorist tunnel shafts and tunnel routes of Hamas," Hagari explained. "It's important to explain that this underground infrastructure is one of the main elements in Hamas's terror operations," the spokesman added. "Dismantling Hamas's underground strongholds in the north, center, and south is a significant step in dismantling Hamas, and it takes time, and our forces are working to carry this out."

Why would Israel put out this timely falsehood? Oh: VATICAN CITY, Dec 17 (Reuters) - Pope Francis on Sunday again suggested Israel was using "terrorism" tactics in Gaza, deploring the reported killing by the Israeli military of two Christian women who had taken refuge in a church complex. At his weekly blessing, Francis referred to a statement about an incident on Saturday by the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, the Catholic authority in the Holy Land. The Patriarchate said an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) "sniper" killed the two women, whom the pope named as Nahida Khalil Anton and her daughter Samar, as they walked to a convent of nuns in the compound of the Holy Family Parish. The Patriarchate statement said seven other people were shot and wounded as they tried to protect others. "I continue to receive very grave and painful news from Gaza," Francis said. "Unarmed civilians are the objects of bombings and shootings. And this happened even inside the Holy Family parish complex, where there are no terrorists, but families, children, people who are sick or disabled, nuns." Francis said they were killed by "snipers" and also referred to the Patriarchate's statement that a convent of nuns of the order founded by Mother Teresa was damaged by Israeli tank fire. "Some would say 'It is war. It is terrorism.' Yes, it is war. It is terrorism," he said. An Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesperson said the incident was still under review and had no immediate comment on the pope's words. The Israeli military said that church representatives had contacted it early on Saturday regarding explosions in the area but did not report any casualties in the church complex. "The IDF only targets terrorists and terror infrastructure and does not target civilians, no matter their religion," the military said. The pope's remarks on Sunday marked the second time in less than a month that he used the word "terrorism" while speaking of events in Gaza. On Nov. 22, after meeting separately with Israeli relatives of hostages held by Hamas and with Palestinians who have family in Gaza, he said: "This is what wars do. But here we have gone beyond wars. This is not war. This is terrorism." Later that day, a messy dispute broke out over whether he used the word "genocide" to describe events in Gaza, with Palestinians who met him insisting that he did and the Vatican saying he did not. Jewish groups criticised the pope for last month's "terrorism" comments. Israel stepped up its bombardment of Gaza overnight and into Sunday, killing at least 40 people, Palestinians said, after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu argued the only way to secure the release of hostages was intense military pressure on Hamas.
This was a pretty heated debate. At one point Piers asks Cenk what he would propose as a solution then to this problem. So at 16:30 Cenk proposes a two state solution now with the PLA which would give them the credibility to drive Hamas out of Gaza. But then between 16:57 -17:05 he says, the idea that you're going to kill 20,000-200,000 more Palestinians to drive out Hamas is insanity. That comment got ran over and lost in the shuffle as everyone was talking over each other. So it was not rebutted. But I caught it and I think it is very telling about Cenk's own state of mind. With this comment Cenk admits it will require 20k to 200k more Palestinian deaths to drive out Hamas, which he considers insane. But just 30 seconds prior, Cenk suggested statehood would give the PLA the clout to drive Hamas out. First of all, the PLA doesn't have the kind of weaponry needed to drive Hamas out. Apparently Cenk must believe clout will cause Hamas to allow themselves to be driven out without another shot. But this forgets that Hamas has already shown itself willing to shoot at the PLA to drive the PLA out of Gaza, and has already done so once. So what makes Cenk think that statehood clout will cause Hamas to now stand down for the PLA? They won't. Israel is a state with both clout and weapons and Hamas won't stand down for them either. So if the PLA has to drive Hamas out by force, they too could not do it without 20k-200k (using Cenk's own estimates) more civilian deaths in order to eliminate the estimated 28k more Hamas fighters still in the battle, still using civilians as human shields. So I've just proved Cenk is insane using his own words.
