Maybe once the list is over (well, this is an ongoing process I guess) somebody with patience and time could organize the threads into groups like: -strategies, methods -journals -newbies' guide (how to and basic questions) -life experiences, anecdotes -entertainment -hardware set ups -etc.etc. And the moderators could make this thread a Sticky. So newcomers would know where to start or people bored could browse the valuable threads... P.S.: I guess you could put the Surf report under Entertainment...
But you're getting ahead of yourself. Who gets to decide which threads are "valuable," and what would be a legitimate basis of such evaluation? Unless these little tidbits are satisfactorily addressed, this exercise is just a waste of time and a game of words.
Honestly, I am a profitable trader but there is always room for improvement. I was looking for some new ideas and looked to see what if anything I could learn from Elite Trader. To my surprise, I found that there is a lot of useful information buried deep in the archives. I started compiling me own list of threads to read when markets are quiet and realized that others might benefit from such a list. I don't lose anything, so why not share? I would have quite happily let others direct me to 100 threads to read but few were willing to share (see my first post). So I have used my own judgement based on my own biases, but I can't be bothered going into details now unless you are generally going to make a positive contribution to this discussion. There always room for debate on specific choices, actually I encourage debate over particular selections. Most will not bother to read through more than a handful of threads, but I'm sure those that make the effort will gain something. Perhaps the ES Journal is too long to include, maybe we should delete that one. Otherwise some are long, some are short, hopefully something for everyone. When is the number of pages in a book too long? If there are too many, you don't buy it. It is up to others how much time if any they choose to spend reading the threads, if they find them useful they'll continue, if not they'll stop. It's no skin off my back.
Anyone who makes the effort is encouraged to have their say as to which threads are 'valuable'. There is no right or wrong. The point is not whether the HALL OF FAME list is perfect. Any award procedure is to some extent flawed and simply reflects the biases of the voting panel. You are welcome to suggest threads but where are you suggestions so far? Why don't you tell us which threads are valuable to you rather than just embarking in an exercise of negativity? Myself and others I'm sure would appreciate remarks about specific threads, positive or negative (except this one!) If you think the whole thread is a meaningless exercise then I don't know why you are here. But as I say, a positive contribution would be very welcome. Gabfly1, please tell us which threads you find useful.
Yep, the next stage will be to create a new thread, perhaps controlled by moderators and then maybe some means to revise or update the list in a fair way (a poll, at least three nominations, or something along those lines..) We'll call it the UNOFFICIAL HALL OF FAME to appease Gabfly1. I am quite happy to remove myself from the selection process and have others critique the selections. Maybe I will learn about some new threads..
That's fine. But then, don't you think maybe the title should have read more along the lines of "my favorite threads," rather than HALL OF FAME? Does not the HOF reference suggest a bit of presumption on your part? And when you asked others to contribute their own choices, then does that not even invalidate the "MY favorite" part? I'm just left wondering, what's in that stew anyway? P.S. I'm bored. Please forgive me.
Admittedly I presume I know more than most of the posters on ET! "Illusions/delusions of grandeur", if you like. Combatting the ego is my #1 challenge as a trader, I have to admit. Until there is another HALL OF FAME, my list is THE definitive one!
I like this thread. Thanks for starting it. There are some great threads listed. Is this the "ultimate" HOF thread? Who cares. Just traders sharing threads they like or any info they've found useful or entertaining works for me. There's such a gargantuan amount of info here that having some sort of filter based on likes or usefulness is good.
ETs, please make any last minute suggestions to complete the initial draft of 100.. I have half a dozen on standby - if nothing forthcoming in the next few hours I'll add these. Then perhaps we can discuss with moderators how to proceed - whether to shorten the list, how to revise it going forward, and maybe create a new thread with the draft list up for discussion on the 1st page.
