"that provide offset" - please let us know which are the ones that provide offset, and how we the customers are able to see / identify the ones that provide offset of futures cash collateral. Also, are any Japanese government bond included in this list that would provide offset for JPY based futures collateral?
Unfortunately customer service doesn't know all their margin rules - neither phone nor online chat customer service. I hope def will reply here soon with the facts regarding the changes that he mentioned.
Symbols DE, FR, GB These 67 should have been adjusted and most should provide margin and thus offer offset. For Japan, currently no.
Thanks, how do we know which ones provide offset? You are saying that the ones who provide margin offer offset. It means that if they can be bought on margin then they also provide offset? All maturities will provide offset? Will this list be updated over time and available on the website or IB will provide us with eligibility criteria? Thanks
Let's take DE000BU0E063 from the list for example. If I type this ISIN in TWS I get no results. If I use the Bond Scanner and search for German Govt bonds with maturity <1 year this one does not show up. @def any thought? Also, any reason why DE0001104867 (German govt bond expiring in dec 23 tradeable on TWS is not included in the list)? Thanks
Putting in ISINs in TWS doesn't work. Searching for non-U.S. government bonds in Bond Scanner with the only condition issuer=Germany yields no results. Perhaps the latter is because it's off market hours; but I should be able to view bonds off market hours - can this be fixed please? "most should provide margin and thus offer offset" - How can we the customers identify which ones are part of "most"? - What is your definition of "should"? Does it or does it not? - Your sentence "and thus..." implies a causal relationship, which is definitely not generally the case, as we discussed in several pages in this thread. We are still in the dark regarding our very simple yes/no question. Please list the specific bonds that provide futures collateral offset. @def Which bonds provide futures collateral offset, and how can we the customers identify them? Can you please let us know the answer crisp and clear? Thanks!
If I search for DE Govt bonds with maturity within 1 year I get 9 bonds. None of them in the list. My interpretation of "These 67 should have been adjusted and most should provide margin and thus offer offset": - Not sure what "adjusted" means - "Most should provide margin": not all bonds in the list can be bought on margin, to identify them use the "Check Margin" tool? - "and thus offer offset": I read it as if a bond can be bought on margin THEN it can be used also to offset the maintenance margin for the futures Def will confirm hopefully. What is not clear to me is: 1) Why none of the bonds in the excel provided can be traded with IB (at least they don't show up on the platform..) 2) Whether only the bonds in the excel file (the one that provide margin) can be used as offset or there are more and these are just the latest ones added ("these 67 should have been adjusted") If @def could clarify in rigorous but plain language it would be great In any case it is not easy to trade EU govt bonds on IB, there are no bids/asks. Def can you think about getting us access to https://www.mtsmarkets.com/ as part of Borsa Italiana/Euronext? Otherwise we need a decent pool of OTC dealers.
I'm seeking clarity with our bond desk. The main issue is with the liquidity providers and we can only provide bonds that trade electronically via the connections we have set up and display quotes where there is live data. I falsely assumed that if in our database we could offer them. The good news is that we should soon be adding additional liquidity providers/venues which will address the lack of bid/ask on many of the bonds and hopefully get better responses to RFQs.
