According to me and anybody with a brain. You can't have a hodge podge piecemeal solution to guns. You can't have states where guns are sold like cigarette packs coexisting with states with good gun control. When people trash big cities they don't understand the dynamics of crime. If you are going to set up a criminal network you won't set it up in a town of 1500 that nobody gives a damn about. You will naturally gravitate to big cities. I know big cities in the world that are complete hell holes because there are LOTS OF GUNS there and no law and order. If guns lowered crime Mogadishu would be a paradise instead of a hell hole.

I was watching the Documentary channel just last night. They were airing a piece on the drug problems - in our small rural towns. The right to bear arms there is tied to military service, you can walk around with it if you are in the military but once you are out, it stays in your home.
