In today's edition of Where are they now? we revisit one of our favorite Ponzi runner, GRPN. Nothing really new, still a pennystock, bought up another competior Living Social a year ago, I guess they were the lucky ones, because they cashed out. I called the former CEO an idiot in my previous post, but he is smarter than we think: "Mason released a motivational rock album entitled Hardly Workin’ in July 2013 through iTunes and Spotify." This is how you are supposed to live your life when you still have 46 million stocks, even if the stock is only worth $3.4 And if he was even smarter he cashed out some of it when the stock ticked up to $10 a few years ago...
Where are they now? 2020 edition: When I originally posted this, GRPN was at $600, then in a year quickly falling to below $100. But the phoenix had raisen and topped at $250, just to visit $50 18 months later. So how did it do in 2020? In January it had a nice run up from $45 to $60. Then I am not sure what the news was, but hit all time low at $10. Yeap, from 600 to 10, although it did take 9 years, and plenty of rallies in between. But as I always say, in trading timing is everything, GRPN had a gorgeous roller coaster last year, going 10-29-15-30-20-35-15-35-20-40. I haven't looked at their fundamentals for a long time, so not sure what is driving this up and down, but it sure looks like fun!!! And when was the last time anybody used a Groupon coupon?
