  1. Yup.... we have tons of space left for many generations.
Starvation occurs for many reasons, but its not land.
War, poltics, religion, reource management, etc.

  2. hollywood: I was not dissing you, I was serious about what I wrote.

Do I think it is going to be catastrophic?

perhaps when it first hits, but I think as a race people are clever enough to survive getting too badly wiped at least financially.

There is a difference between seeking (good) risk out (as in trading) and dealing with a risky situation that comes upon you.

Financial substructures may be too well wired to have too big a catastrophy.

What may not be as well wired is traders'/investors'/general pop's psychology and tendency to make delusional panic trades.

But if you trade well and have a good money management system (I use the 50/50/30/1-2MM system) you should be able to profit even in the worst monetary conditions.

    Best regards,

    Sam

  3. Thankyou for clarifying.Actually, crsytal clear. After Japans last 12 years and the last 4 years of own economy,it seems unlikely to me that a meltdown would occur. But unfortunately ,to avoid such a scenario there is a price to be paid.Currency devaluation, and as we all know, that has never been the solution for any economy. But then again, stranger things have happened. Thanks again,Goodluck

  5. Axe, such simplistic reasoning is almost beyond belief. To imagine that human population dynamics is only a space issue. How could anybody think this? You have to deny reality to see it this way. You have to completely disregard the environmental problems from human resource use, depletion and destruction.

You have to live in some very peculiar ivory tower.

    Bizarre.

On the other side you've got all these non-scientists, often motivated by religious beliefs....bunch of happy shit nonsense.

No you are taking an extremely pessimistic approach. You have to account for technology that will take advantage of barren wastelands and contract food production facilities. It's an ongoing process.
As for population controls, that is only a matter of time. I think birth control should be strongly imposed upon the population first because of all these unwanted babies. Then population controls cause the 8 sibling families are a thing of the past.

  8. It amazes me how many responses these types of threads draw.

I would normally say opinions are like a**holes because everybody has one; however I was watching MIB last night and the doctor doing the autopsy said the guy DIDN'T have one.

So, for those who are conspirarcy theorists, they probably believe in MIB and aliens already on the planet and should therefore reconsider.

Anyway, I hear there are some good drugs for depression these days.

recession is when the other guy is out of work, depression is when you are out of work.

  10. No you are taking an extremely optomistic approach! :D

This is what has gotten us into such deep shit. Technology has allowed us to inflate the population bubble. Nature (or God if you prefer) will pop the bubble. But it will be much uglier if we don't take steps to try and ameliorate the problem. It may be too late already.

It really does remind me of early 2000 when the majority of people were dreaming up all kinds of reasons why the market wasn't overvalued and why it SHOULD keep going up. It was crazy. Same kind of craziness grips us with regard to population...we dream up all kinds of reasons why we can cram more people onto the earth without seriously mucking things up. We have a distorted view here in the US. And we somehow think that everyone in the world can live like we do and that we can accomodate more and more of us. No way. Standards of living may come up in many parts of the world, but there will be an environmental toll, and the US will probably see declining standards of living.
