Google's Net Neutrality Fiasco

Discussion in 'Wall St. News' started by atticus, Apr 26, 2007.

  1. Atticus you are getting served here, just give up. Who are you working for anyways.

Read the mandate when the Net was created, Neutrality was the centerpiece. Besides being a huge boondoggle that lines the pockets of the Telcos with fees they had no part of creating, overturning Net Neutrality will stifle everything that is great about the Internet, raise the cost of every transaction conducted online and ultimately make us less competitive globally.

Many thanks to GWB and all for putting you in your place.

  2. Suffers from attachment bias. Since he's sleeping with the source of his ideas, his preponderous intellect is of no use to him.

just the fact that you can reach free site like ET and get reply in a split second is reason enough to support the net neutrality.

The companies like Google and AT&T have every right to control content if it's their domain and their network. But for the rest of the internet they have no say. The internet was made for everyone to see and enjoy whatever they want. If they try to take away the good stuff that we all love they might as well just get rid of the internet completely. The internet is a technological representation of freedom. Don't tread on it.

Internet over power lines [BPL] has been tried and rejected in Japan and elsewhere. The radio community is opposed to it as it generates interference. The FCC is wording things like "not allowed to interfere" but the radio community knows that they will interfere as much as they can get away with because non-interference means limiting bandwidth and the internet is moving towards ever-more BW, never less.... The Amateur radio community won a legal battle against BPL only a few days ago, probably BPL will go away, it is idiotic really....

It is especially critical that members of this community support Net Neutrality. The concept that Service Providers such as AT&T, Charter, Time Warner, etc. will only offer speedy connections to websites that "pay-to-play" is a fiasco for the active trader community.

Let's say that you use Broker A - an excellent service that offers real time data, low trade pricing, solid tools, and other services than enable you to be successful in the market. Once the telecom / cable companies do away with Net Netrality than they will only give speedy connections to companies that pay them money to the be in the "fast lane" on the Internet. If Broker A does not pay the "blackmail" fees demanded by the service providers then suddenly their service to your home will slow to a crawl, and you will be forced to use Broker B (who paid the "blackmail' but may have inferior service and higher prices) to get any type of type of decent quotes & service.

A recent HingeFire post outlined some of the recent activity in regards to Net Neutrality and details how to contact Congress to Save the Internet. Two linked videos show the importance of Net Neutrality and I would urge people to watch them.

  8. The telcos are trying to block expansion of Wi-Fi VOIP.

As Wi-Fi VOIP goes up - cell, land line services tank.

    End of story.

Screw the telcos. They are always trying to screw you.
