Nice job, and great Antonio Tarver story. In every interview I have seen with him, he seems like a thoughtful, bright guy. He co-hosted Friday Night Fights a few times and he did a great job at it.

So you are still in it, right? Good luck.

  6. The field of this year's WSOP was 8,700+ after four long days there were 3200 remaining. I started today with a group of 1600 people (the other half will play tomorrow) and our goal was to play down to 550 (tomorrow will play down to 550 as well, then we will be combined and play down from there).

My goal before the tourney even started was to get past the first day, check. Now going into today I felt confident with my 70k chip stack compared to a room average of 30k. The next highest at my table was 29k so I thought it would be smooth sailing, I'd be able to push people around etc...I did have one concern however, and that was the known pro sitting immediatly to my left (he would always be acting after me). But I outchipped him 4-1.

First hand, I am dealt 10-10 and I am first to act in middle position, I raise to $2k all fold to big blind that calls. Flop comes K33, BB bets $2500 I raise $4000 he thinks a minute then goes allin for another $15k I fold. A couple of hands later I am one off the button and raise $2500 with 78 suited. Pro behind me calls everybody else folds. Flop comes AK7 I bet out $3k he calls. The turn is 3, I fire again $6000 pro calls. River a 6, I think a sec and check, pro checks and shows A9,,,,ugh. Thats how the day went. I did not get cards, my bluffs were called, the pro outplayed me (and everybody else for that matter) the whole afternoon. By the time of the 2nd break, 4 hours into the day, I was down to $18k, the pro who started at $17k was upto $120k.

Coming back from break, I was dejected to say the least. starting the day I felt I had a decent shot to go far, now I was hanging on for my tourney life. The dealer began to shuffle, when a floorman came by, and said it was the last hand, after we were to be relocated to different tables ( my ray of hope).

New table I played tight, a mistake, but I had no confidence left. After a few rounds, and blinds I was down to under $14k, with the blinds 500-1000. I said to myself screw this, if I go down it wont be by being blinded off. I was in the small blind with 5-7, it folds around to a medium stack on the button who rasies to $4500, I think a sec, then announce allin, the BB folds, the button thinks, my heart pounds, and he folds. Along with the chips I also replenished my confidence and it was off to the races. I still wasnt getting cards, but was able to pick on the tight players getting their blinds or pushing allin with meaningless cards causing them to fold.

By the dinner break I was up to $45k. For the next hour I was between $40k-$50, content to hold onto this level and make the third day. Then I picked up my first pocket pair of the day above 10's,,,good old ACES. I was in middle position, a small stack in early position limped in for $1200, I thought a moment and made it $5000 the button (the bigstack) raised another $9k, the limper folded to me. Now, I had to think how I can get all my money in and have him call. I waited a minute which I hope was construed that I may be beat, then I announced I was allin. I was hoping this looked that I just was making a desperation play. The button thought, and thought, and thought, finally after counting and recounting his chips he called and flipped over KK. My AA held (EsPN cameras in my face) and my stack was now a secure $90k+.

I was able to steal another $10k over the next hour and ended the night with $100k average is $70k. I play on Friday with the remaining 1100. The top 873 get paid (minimum $15k). The real money doesnt start until 72 remaining (100k). Number 12 starts the million and 3,2,1 get $4mil, $6 mil and $12mil respectively.

I can probably just fold every hand and get to the money, but I am not in it for $15k. I will try to go deep or bust out trying...to be continued

Proposition 1: If you are a good poker player, then you will also be a good trader.

Proposition 2: If you are a good trader, then you will also be a good poker player.

I know at least a dozen great traders who are either terrible poker players, or who dislike the game of poker and don't play it at all. This evidence, while far from conclusive, tends to refute Proposition 2.

  8. Good job Gunslinger, me brother, even though making 2 final tables with a POY rating in the 40's, didn't make it past the first day of the $10K main event.

Not that its' any of our business, am I correct in assuming that you are one of these guys?

    62 Joseph Cappello 102,000
    63 Justin Diamond 101,000
    64 Mike Minetti 100,000
    65 Magnus Peterson 99,700
    66 Igor Federal 99,000
    67 Jeffrey Abramovitz

If so, good job, keep it up. I spend a lot of time in the back of the Full Tilt room with the "boys" . .. stop in when you can.
