Good, free software that tracks amout of data down/uploaded ?

NetMeter - Tried it, worked well :

or you could use windows task manager.

press CRTL + ALT + delete
click on the networking tab
click on View -> Select Columns
Check on Bytes Sent and Bytes Received

Leave task manager open to monitor your network traffic.
