I found the info about the first notice day on the NYMEX site. Basically it 's the last day of the month preceding the expiration month, the30th or the 31th. The CBOT website is a pain to navigate I never find quickly the info I look for. btw Even the CBOT people didn't know about the 1st notice day. Now I anm trying to figure out when the rollover is. Anyway I passed on that trade in Gold, will wait until rollover in October contract. It scares me a bit, the spread widens to $ 5 + outside of US RTH trading hours. Maybe some of you could enlighten us about the key data if any (i.e. date of release) to watch for when trading Gold. Is there any Govt report to know about?
Gold and the US Dollar are (short term) inversely correlated: once the $ is weak you should expect Gold rising. Therefore, any US reports affecting the currency market are likely to affect the Gold market too. alberto
I was thinking about data on Central bank sales or mines production for example. I would not trade Gold on short term moves in the dollar because they may appear as inversely correlated , it's oversimplification.
wow .. anyone care to share .. disclosure - long silver 10 cent move in a couple of mins ... not bad at all.
the next lead month starting on the rollover is DECEMBER ... not October ... gold is different than some other commodities as far as switching months goes trust me ... DEC is the one to trade after rollover
Is there a site where we can get the rollover information for the most liquid months to trade in the gold minis? Why is it not October?
or go to the NYMEX website perhaps there is someone in marketing who can help you there ... I used to work with the brokers on the floor in Comex trust me ... people will trade Oct. but the Pro's trade DEC check the Volume next month in the YG you will see DEC doing mucho compared to OCT good luck
Seth Arb, Thanks for the tip. How come June was rolled over into August, I understood you rolled over two months forward. Dec has definitely more depth than Oct . Should have plunged a couple days ago and bought Aug though. Obviously.
for gold futures the lead months during the year change but are always one of those in this list FEB , APR , JUN , AUG , DEC a good live broker, perhaps Futures Magazine or the CBOT or NYMEX websites should be able to tell you the rollover or First Notice Days for Gold Futures and thus for YG mini as it it patterned after the big one traded in the pit via open outcry in NYC
