They've been doing fuel cell research for decades and nothing comes out yet. Do you expect to see any fuel cell cars in the next 5-10 years? How can you be sure that by the time it comes out, there won't be any better technology around?

  3. gm is a better value than toyota. i recently bought another new full sized truck. i thought i wanted a toyota tundra this time. i compared the 2. the toyota was nice but the engine was underpowered. the big difference was the price. for similar trucks toyota wanted 33000 and gm wanted 24000. on top of that i carry a gm credit card so i got 2000 more off. maybe gm will go bankrupt at these prices. i dont care i will cross that bridge when it happens.

You sound like you had the misfortune of buying GM your whole life. Nothing wrong with that, their cars are cheaper - but you get what you pay for. As far as employment in the auto industry, GM and Ford have been laying people off for decades because they can't complete with the foreign car makers. Whereas Honda, Toyota, and every other foreign car maker is creating thousands of new jobs every single year in America. Stop fighting the trend.

Sorry if I was a bit harsh, I believe people should buy whatever they want with their own money. Nobody should tell them what to buy, but it seems for 99% of all foriegn vehicle owners that it's not enough that they are buying foriegn vehicles but they also need to put down the big three at the same time. I hear this from idots who know absolutely nothing about cars say foriegn cars are better. GM has some of the tightest tolerances in the industry. I feel someone needs to stand up and set them straight. If you don't like hearing the music then just buy your hyundais and keep your mouth shut, no need to put down GM at the same time. BTW When Toyota, Honda etc. not only bring some assembly work to make us happy but also bring their entire engineering and executives to the US and become US company's that's when they can compare with the amount of benefit of being here. I don't see that happening ever.

  9. 'harsh' isn't exactly the right word

Your interpretation of our statements about the big 3 as a 'putdown' shows your emotional attachment to the topic. To say that the big 3 can't match the foreign maker in terms of this or that standard of quality evaluation or business efficiency is not a 'putdown'. It is an attempt to quantify the differences between the companies and arrive at an informed decision about where to invest. You cited a GM commercial as 'proof' that the big 3 can compete with the foreign makers. No matter what you get out of this, I would strongly, strongly suggest that you drop that argument. It doesn't really make any sense.

You use the term 'idiots' pretty freely. Just wanted to let you know - it undermines your credibility a lot

This is the weirdest thing you have said so far, if I am understanding you correctly, although this sentence is a bit vague.

Why on earth would they want to do that? If I trade on a dial up connection using a computer with 128M of RAM, and Metastock RT, and I don't do as well, do I say

'Oh yeah, let the guy with the Bloomberg terminal and the TT try to trade with MY setup and THEN see how he does'.

Instead of calling people idiots, why not suggest ways in which you think the big 3 US auto manufactureres could close the gap? As I said earlier, there is nothing I have seen so far that says that GM must go bankrupt. It all depends on the leadership and brains in the management team and whether or not they are able to make tough decisions.

I don't see Kerkorian's involvement as a confirmation of GMs ability to make better cars than the foreign makers. Kerkorian obviously knows what he's doing, and most of us probably can't figure it out.

Oh yeah, just one more suggestion for you. I would also drop the 'I used to own a 740iL but I switched to a 2000 Bonneville' argument.

  10. Get rid of all tariffs on cars and then we'll see how fast GM and F flop for the pieces of shit they are. Americans can no longer build cars. Nationalism is the sole reason why GM and F lasted this long.

They enginered cars to break down every 10 years so people will be forced to come back and buy a new one. Some of this new shit being built in China and Korea can last 15 years +, and can be built a 1/5th the cost.
