The picture I tried to post didn't come through. To be fair, the government itself has done plenty over the decades to destroy the car companies - including idiotic stuff like CAFE standards and arbitrarily limiting GM's market share in the 50's even as it was naturally increasing as other car companies didn't meet consumer tastes and went out of business. The consistent losers in all this are and will continue to be the consumers and the taxpayers.
Exactly. Perfect synopsis. UAW boss, Gettelfungus says "labor costs are low and not the problem." That "people aren't buying cars" and the Republicans are out to get them. LMAO. Why are Toyota and Honda able to make money then? HIS greed and inflated air of entitlement has flushed billions in compensation down the toilet for his union members.
Both of those are cutting back on-shore production dramatically. As they use a very high percentage of "temporary" workers, that means they are laying off, or part-timing, a large number of workers.
can't believe how oversold this stock got the other morning - never even got a chance to short. i say let the bastards fail - it will help Ford's business
... i know they're saying that if GM and Chrysler fail the worst will happen - great depression part 2 blah blah blah. what do you economists on here think? i haven't been keeping up - trading technicals only
=================== Agree with Jim Rogers''Bankruptcy would be good for GM''; he told bloomberg news.
I do not believe a depression will come, though it is certain that it would have a deep effect in the already struggled economy. I concern about the jobs that an eventual bankruptcy may leave, however, if they must file that does not necessarily mean the end of them, they will just have to work really hard to heal their finances.
