Eco-fascism jumps the shark: massive, epic fail! By James Delingpole Environment Last updated: October 1st, 2010 I predicted this morning that No Pressure â Richard Curtisâs spectacularly ill-judged eco-propaganda movie for the 10:10 campaign â would prove a disastrous own goal for the green movement. But what I could never have imagined was how quickly public disgust â even among greenies â would reach such a pitch that the campaigners would be compelled to withdraw it from the internet. That, at any rate, is what they keep trying to do â cancelling it whenever it appears on You Tube, pulling it from their campaign website and so on. Unfortunately their efforts are being frustrated by people on the sceptical side of the climate debate, who keep peskily insisting on reposting the video where everyone can view it. And rightly so. With No Pressure, the environmental movement has revealed the snarling, wicked, homicidal misanthropy beneath its cloak of gentle, bunny-hugging righteousness. I donât think any of us will ever be able to look at another Richard Curtis movie in quite the same way ever again. It may even be that we will now never, ever be able to enjoy another episode of the Vicar of Dibley, because all weâll be able to think about is Dawn French with a Panzerfaust beneath her cassock ready to blast off the heads of any members of her congregation who donât believe in Man Made Global Warming. What a sad day this is for us all. PS If you want to register your disgust, a commenter from the previous blog Reconstruct has some helpful suggestions: Now youâve seen the video, prepare not to be surprised that your taxes helped pay for it. The 10:10 Campaign is supported by: ActionAid (Govt of UK 2nd largest funder in 2009); The Carbon Trust (surely #1 on the list of quangos-to-go); The Energy Saving Trust. Be not surprised that The Guardian is their âmedia partnerâ. On the other hand, if youâre outraged by the video, you might be interested to know that they also have a small number of genuine commercial sponsors: O2, Sony and Kyocera all have helped fund the 10:10 Campaign. I suggest that the first thing to do is to make your outrage known to O2, Sony and Kyocera, suggesting that their commercial interests might not be furthered by funding murderous nazi will-fulfillment propaganda. UPDATE: Hereâs the excuse posted by the 10:10 organisers on the Guardian website. Sorry. Today we put up a mini-movie about 10:10 and climate change called âNo Pressureâ. With climate change becoming increasingly threatening, and decreasingly talked about in the media, we wanted to find a way to bring this critical issue back into the headlines whilst making people laugh. We were therefore delighted when Britainâs leading comedy writer, Richard Curtis â writer of Blackadder, Four Weddings, Notting Hill and many others â agreed to write a short film for the 10:10 campaign. Many people found the resulting film extremely funny, but unfortunately some didnât and we sincerely apologise to anybody we have offended. As a result of these concerns weâve taken it off our website. Weâd like to thank the 50+ film professionals and 40+ actors and extras and who gave their time and equipment to the film for free. We greatly value your contributions and the tremendous enthusiasm and professionalism you brought to the project. At 10:10 weâre all about trying new and creative ways of getting people to take action on climate change. Unfortunately in this instance we missed the mark. Oh well, we live and learn. Onwards and upwards, Eugenie, Franny, Daniel, Lizzie and the whole 10:10 team http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/j...co-fascism-jumps-the-shark-massive-epic-fail/
Here's a link to the actual document: http://royalsociety.org/climate-change-summary-of-science/ "There is strong evidence that the warming of the Earth over the last half-century has been caused largely by human activity, such as the burning of fossil fuels and changes in land use, including agriculture and deforestation." Perhaps you'd like to explain whether the article you just believed was contradiction, lies or misrepresentation.
remarkably, I thought this was an anti-eco-fascist campaign, and found it quite funny as satire, apparently, it was produced BY the eco-fascists you are one sick, disturbed individual, 'BigDave', I find it difficult to express how much I truly detest you and your kind
You've just admitted something very interesting, which I think is not uncommon. What you've said in this post is that "I found it funny, until I found out who made it." In other words, you've admitted here that the part of your brain called the amygdala overrode the pre-frontal cortex -- anger overriding higher level functions like humor. This might also explain some of your emotionally charged foundations for your political positions. I don't think this is at all uncommon in people, and might even be common. Anyway, no offense, I just found that interesting.
your Big thoughts exceed your mental capacity there is a difference between cautionary satire, and one that advocates (That's called propaganda) you're not altogether smart, just a pitiful subscriber of abhorrent indoctrination
Um, so you actually believe that global warming advocates are advocating killing people. You see, I find that unlikely. In fact, I find that so over-the-top that it's hilariously silly and only an effective way to get people's attention for a rather mundane topic (conservation). Evidence for my side includes the fact that Richard Curtis is a famous comedy writer and that there's no other evidence that global warming advocates are actually advocating this. Beyond that, global warming advocates do not seem to have developed the "button" technology that would be required to implement this evil scheme. On the other side, I would cite the fact that there are massive groups who follow fear-based leadership on radio. Hey, by the way, are you offended by the "Keep Fear Alive" rally that's going on in DC?
as I stated before, you're not altogether bright. Each of your posts confirm this.... As i stated before, it is difficult for me to explain just how much I detest you idiots if this video is an attempt to poke fun of their own tactics, then, they are all the more reprehensible for employing these tactics in the first place, knowing full well how detestable they are
Um, okay, they shouldn't show this video because you find the group detestable. I remember in the 80's how the feminists would freak out every time someone would write something that they didn't like, or that could even remotely be interpreted as misogynist. Now, God forbid if you upset the Republicans/Murdochians or they'll pee themselves in anger and make sure you can't see anything that upsets them.
Everybody down to Fox Studios with torches and scythes if it turns out that we've reached the point of no return and Limbaugh/Beck weren't scientists but corporate shills.
