  2. Although I think that dirtbag DA got booted from office, lost his law license, and may have done some time.

Napalm numbers continue to confirm the April/May slowdown in the US was likely production cutbacks in response to Japan. Incredible rally in shares this week. One week of gains wiping out red 1st half numbers in US and Europe.

  3. I was thinking how unfair in reality it is to compare say gold or real estate performance to stock performance over a longer period in time.

Very few individual investors buy the index, was it even possible say 20 years ago to buy the index, and despite succes stories being not impossible for most it probably is a pipe dream outperforming the index.

The Dow Jones is up year to year something like 24% yet when I read on other message boards people in individual stocks are pulling their hair out as if it was 2008 all over again.

I guess most people think they are invested in the new Google or something hence their individual stock picking yet if that is the purpose they shouldnt be invested in large caps at all which often is the case nevertheless.

Whats bizarre about the DSK situation is how his wife is completely ok with him going around having consensual sex, so much that she didn't even believe the rape allegations. DSK isn't a rapist, the guy is a pimp

  5. Some news for the Euro core zone.

I live in Belgium as some of you might know and we have been without a government for well over a year now.

Anyway, in the newest proposal from one of the two winning parties to come together they plan to tax stock market gains 50% for when you sell in the first year, then the tax decreases gradually untill after 8 years of being long you can sell without capital gain taxes.

We didnt have a capital gains tax untill now just to be clear.

People on message boards are rather freaking out I can tell you.
    :D

On top of this the European union plans to tax all transactions throughout Europe to spice up their budget.

    Oh man...

Soon you will win more putting your cash in the ground regardless of future inflation.

  7. Yeah but seriously, taxing capital gains 50% + the stock taxes that were already in place (granted they were small) + Europe implementing stock market taxes...

One would start to believe getting a job off the books at 10 Euro's an hour will be more lucrative then trying to invest.

+ The costs it will bring forcing people to pay them, controlling it, the downside it has on investments foreign and internal supporting the economy, the risk of capital flight, more money going underground...

It just seems a little much but obviously for now it is just a proposal maybe the soup will not be eaten as hot as it is served.

Still it offers a nice view on goverment tactics to get more money and a cynic with some sense of history could very well argue this is only the beginning.

  8. Well, I don't think it matters particularly how we're gonna pay for the good times. Pay we must and pay we will. I don't like it any more than you do, but that's just the way the cookie crumbles. You may disagree with the precise methodology used, but that's really neither here nor there, just cosmetic details.
