What europe should do is open up a timeframe for tax evaders bringing back their money tax free and penalty free. Literally hundreds of billions would flow into European banks overnight. It would help with the Euro CHF too.
Yes, and Belgium has done it also these past years but still a fair amount of restrictions and angles were in place really. I believe the average penalty was something like 7% or so on the entire capital. Is that enough for people not to do it? I don't know.
QE3 expectations now being priced in the markets. Some 2012 Fed futures are higher than 2011 contracts, same thing happened in QE2. Could be a cut in IOR but it seems to me that this is the after effect of the GS Hatzius piece rather than anything related to IOR
Another huge rally in TIPS. Quite a difference to 2008 when TIPS crashed alongside the equity markets starting on the Lehman bankruptcy Monday as inflation expectations briefly dipped to 0%. Looking to short TIP but only after it breaks down below its moving averages. Too dangerous to step in just yet for my taste.
Euroswiss prices above 100 - implying negative interbank rates http://www.euronext.com/trader/summ...ontractType=9&mnemo=S&selectedMepDerivative=7 Trying to buy some Dec 11's, but apparently never checked off permissions to trade euroswiss on ib. Just asked for permission and it takes 24-48 hours. Damn.
Kinda of a weird dynamic since in theory it makes QE3 less likely. Guess the Fed will be reluctant to throw a big number out there and possibly unanchor iexpectations. They might have to buy $Xb USTs every 45 days with regular reviews or something
How much did Soros miss out selling his gold in Q1? At least a billion or more no.... But who knows... maybe he got a large chunk of the meat and left the blowoff to the dentists.
