There are over 800,000 articles documenting COVID breakouts at gyms.

Here is the first one from the search... and Canada has stricter COVID gyms standards than most of the U.S.

Spin Classes Lead To Over Sixty People With Coronavirus From One Gym

"In the case of the spin fitness gym in Canada, the business had reportedly implemented many extra safety measures. These included reducing capacity by half and giving a six foot radius between each bike and cyclist, as well as enhanced screening and sanitation measures. These measures complied with local public health guidelines."

Let's see what public health experts have to say about the flawed MXM study being used to promote gyms as being safe...

The fitness industry is trying to lure gym members back — but experts say it’s using flawed data
    Washington Post - https://webcache.googleusercontent....cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us&client=firefox-b-1-d

A top fitness industry trade association and some of its member gyms are promoting the message that health clubs nationwide are “safe and are not contributing to the spread of covid-19” based on the conclusions of a study that experts in public health and research methods say was methodologically flawed and open to conflicts of interest.

The study was conducted by MXM, a company that helps health clubs understand and manage their member experience, in partnership with the International Health, Racquet, and Sportsclub Association (IHRSA). According to MXM’s methodology page, more than 2,800 gyms nationwide submitted self-reported data on the number of member visits and cases of the novel coronavirus linked to their facilities from May through early August. Only 1,155 positive cases were reported out of about 49 million visits, leading MXM and IHRSA to conclude that the infection rate in participating gyms was a “nominal” 0.002 percent.

The Sept. 2 news release from IHRSA quoted above was titled “National Study Confirms It’s Safe To Work Out At The Gym: Current Data Shows No Evidence of COVID-19 Spread in Gyms.” An accompanying graphic declared: “THE GYM IS A SAFE PLACE FOR FITNESS.”

The findings have since been cited by IHRSA in letters to governors lobbying to keep gyms open, and the research has been shared online by prominent clubs and at least one elected official. But research experts and doctors who have looked at the study say major flaws in its methodology probably skewed data in favor of gym safety.

  2. What about the heavy breathing that comes with exertion, and the fact that the virus can remain in place in aerosol form for a while in closed quarters? The risk may be small, but I don't think it is negligible. And the idea of wearing a mask while seriously working out makes little sense to me.

While America has figured out how to have restaurants open (though maybe not economically), we still haven't figured out gyms.

  4. Anytime Fitness is where I mostly go. I have a friend at PF who I workout with at times. I can tell to new memberships are down everywhere and people opting out are also up. Normally there are fewer than 10 in the gym at any one time, at least when I go.
Employees occassionally wipe equipment down, but it's mostly the people themselves. AF had plenty of wipes and disinfectants available. I wipe down everything before and after use. Again, there is no supermarket or restaurant with the level of sanitation I see at the gym.

  5. All I know is what I see and experience at the gyms I attended. No cases being discussed by gym members, none, zero. Much cleaner and safer than any restaurant or store.
Exercise keeps people healthy. Staying at home, eating shit food, obsessing over Covid, political crap, and the news in general is not helpful or healthy at all. If this government cares about health, they don't, but if they did they'd be offering financial assistance to join a gym.
This isn't about health, it's about politics, and has been from the jump. Not really interested in debating the issue any longer. People have their minds made up. Do as you will.

But, yeah, it is political to the extent that Trump made it so.

Yeah there's gotta be no way PF's membership recruitment doesn't continue to decline. As well as the renewals. Ya gotta think young folks are mostly liberal as a whole, so they are getting all their news with a leftist bias, which means they are getting bombarded with Covid fears. PLNT has 1.2B in debt, most of their top line is new and ongoing franchise fees. I don't see that getting any better for the foreseeable future till we get get some kind of vaccine. Short interest is pretty high though.
Hmmmm. Should have jumped on it Friday. $69 was probably the high going into the 11/05 earnings.
Or the election on 11/3 at least.

  8. Oh, get it; I see the code:

    Young, liberal = educated
    "Leftist" = factual

    Awesome.
