You're not going to start a thread to try to ban me and then "quit" ET when it fails? I'm disappointed
You still are having trouble with this? RCG, first of all, when selected for Jury duty, your job HAS to pay you your first full week wages BY LAW. There are NO LOST WAGES for the first week. Second, there is a 98% chance you won't even be selected in the first place and if you are selected, over 90% of the cases are heard in a day and certainly less then a week. This is not OJ Simpson. Sure, a lawyer is probably lying to you, the jury. Both sides probably are. You know who else is lying to you? Your President when he sends you off to war. Oh yeah, but you have no problem doing that do you? As many a liberal would say, your government lied to send you over to Iraq and then lied to keep you there. Serving your master. Many African American leaders have equated our modern day military to the slaves picking cotton in the south in the 1800's. You just do as your told. As least on a jury, you make the call! In the military, you get no such freedom. I don't recall jurors killing innocent civilians or blowing up schools, churches, cutting off food lines, starving people to death. You see RCG, it can be argued both ways now can't it? At the end of the day, military service in this country is voluntary, serving on a jury duty if selected is state law provided you don't meet the exemptions which I presume you don't. You know the irony here is, all the rights you have gained in the last 100 years as an African American has been given to you by the courts, not the military. Yet, you won't even serve the very courts who bestowed those rights upon on you. Edit: I should add each state has different requirements pertaining to whether or not employers compensate you for lost wages.
Precisely, the courts, judges.....not jurors. No jury has ever bestowed a single civil right to any person of color, these have all been judicial decisions from those activist judges conservatives like to bitch about. And truthfully Mav, nobody believes that we were in Iraq to liberate them. The bottom line, for me anyways, is that any family, tribe, or nation must secure resources. If they cannot make it, or barter for it, it must be secured by other means. It is an unpleasant truth, but so far in history I have not seen it work any other way.
Yes, that is because jurors don't hear supreme court cases. But it's the court system in general I'm speaking about. Don't be obtuse RCG. You don't have an argument here.
Hey that was you who tried to wail about not serving the courts that gave us all these right, but the problem is that they didn't no jury ever has. One more reason why I make a clear distinction between the military and jury duty. When it was time for the military to do it's job white men protected black people in Arkansas as one quick example. Not jurors.
RCG, do you really want me to go back through history and cite examples of things the military did both good and bad? Come on capadre. Just give up. You can argue this both ways all day long. Just do your civic duty. Oh yeah, and it's the law. Happy fourth! And by the way, I do respect your service in the military. That goes without saying I hope.
Sure, but there is no both sides to the jury debate, no jury has ever done anything for blacks in the aggregate in this country. The Armed Forces have. There is no debate here really. Don't overeat and happy fourth to you too
Lets complete the circle of your argument.....Please list the similarities between jury duty and military service. Feel free to include the positives of general civil service that apply to both.
Not so fast. Come on RCG. No jury has ever done anything for blacks? Ever? All or none statements are usually false.
