I have read that TWS chart backfill (every time you open or switch charts) is very, very slow (may not even happen?). I don't think this is TWS but the IB server (someone please correct me if this is not correct). IB is not a data provider so don't expect too much. Otherwise, I do like them and their API. I just don't use their charting. There are many platforms that can get data from IQFeed (Rythmic is also mentioned a lot, Poly...io) and use IB as the broker. Also, there are platforms that can provide their own data, ie. TradeStation, etc. You can find many threads here on ET with many suggestions for various combinations that may meet your needs.
A. I agree its more a server data feed issue. and B. You shouldn't have to go 3rd party for basic functionality like loading your charts in a timely fashion. Im aware I could use any number of other platforms, but why would I spend the additional money if I dont have to. But every day IB doesn't fix their performance it feels like I do have to.
I agree. What's important for me is that I can trade directly from the charts, so I can't just use any chart package. Somebody above mentioned Ninja, looking at it now. looks quite good. Might give it a go.
Unfortunately you have to. Been using IB for over 15 years on and off, the same issue if lagging charts (from time to time) and f...n daily resets, even with gateway. Doubt it will change, essence of Java. IB strength is in their trading tech, stability and extremely broad World wide market access, plus decent commissions of course.
Maybe. It just kills me because Im not asking for much...not asking for anything new...just do what its supposed to do. There are genuinely some great features I love about TWS that make me want to stay. But this is getting ridiculous =/
I said it before and will say it again, IB needs to buy DasTrader and offer it for free or at a low cost to clients. Client satisfaction would improve overnight
