Now, what would the other side say to that? I think people on your side need to wise up fast or move on because, frankly, the status quo ain't working. "Wow, what a shocking revelation. Did you say 'tariffs get passed down to consumers?' Next, are you gonna tell me water is wet and politicians lie? Are you a fucking moron or you think I'm in the same league as you? Look, nobody’s arguing tariffs are painless, but let’s not pretend the current status quo—cheap junk from China, stagnant wages, hollowed-out industry—is some economic paradise either. There’s no free lunch, genius. So do you wanna keep renting prosperity from China, or actually own some of it back home, even if it costs more upfront? BTW that ‘cheap junk’ from China came at a real cost: factory towns gutted, families wrecked, whole industries shipped overseas while politicians like yours smiled and called it 'progress.' Tariffs aren’t perfect but at least it’s a shot at leveling the playing field. You want everything cheap, made by slave labor, and expect good-paying jobs to magically appear at home? That’s not an economy, that’s a fantasy novel. Again, there’s no free lunch. Somebody somewhere’s been paying the tab, and (spoiler alert!) that’s been us, dumbass!"
Yeah, you got that right. We have been the victims of trade abuse. Trump has been the victim of media abuse. All that is now ending!
Right. Ever the victim, with Trump as Victim in Chief. Show us on this economics book where they hurt you.
Don't need to look at books. Local manufacturing left starting in 1993 with NAFTA and decimated local jobs...retirements. I saw the leave and the factories close. Detroit auto industry hurt badly. Pharm hurt badly. College students flipping burgers cause can't find a good job. Wages depressed because of foreign wages being so cheap. Corporations move to other countries. These countries make the products sell to us. They get the jobs. They get the products to buy. They get to export the products. We buy. So, they get the money, the jobs, the product, and produce sweat shops. Then we also have become dependent on other countries for practically everything. That is not good for America. Yes, we have been the victim of stupid unfair free trade practices. Our politicians made these stupid deals. Our factories took advantage of the deals and opened up in other countries. We are left consuming cheap products that decimate our economy and cause us to lose jobs, close factories, depend upon others. Trump is changing that. The world doesn't like it. Well too bad. Deal with it.
trump is fake, he is a billionaire playing a victim, and misled average people. forget about him, he will be gone by midterm and nothing will change but misery. i can share your sentiment but get real, american exceptionalism is a highly misguided since the ww2. we are averagely educated, averagely iq, make average products. when outside world was destroyed by wars, we benefited greatly. when outside world recovered, we revert to the mean. if history is any guide, read the history of rome, spain, france, mongol, russia, china, britain.
Of course not. Just as Trump knows more about military matters than the generals, he also know more about the economy than the world's leading economists. Don't let facts and history get in the way of your knowledge. Books are for losers.
You are spouting utter nonsense. Before Trump interfered, you had a strong economy, lowering inflation, and full employment. Any problems for Americans were related to the wealth gap and unwillingness of the Republicans to share the wealth. There is no meaningful "stupid unfair free trade practices" that's a Trump false narrative that you obviously drank the Koolaid on. Balanced trade is a stupid concept why would the largest consumer nation buy the exact same amount of goods as much smaller nations ? Yes, we know, Trump believes in this nonsense and there is definitely a fear in his staff to tell him you can see it in the interviews they do. You however don't have to tow the line but due to ignorance you do so anyways. Why don't you educate yourself rather then post all this crap online ? So when Trump relents or is forced to by other Americans I'm sure you'll try to frame it as some victory like he does. You have already tried to do so when absolutely no one on this planet has given in to Trump on anything other then the clueless Republican party.
When I read some of the posts from some Americans on here the level of hubris and lack of knowledge is clear. It's not hard for me to see why some Canadians in my family are doing extremely well in business better then most of their American peers. Being born in a country does not mean you inherit the overall success of your country. There is still hope for the US to turn this around but Trump's vision is hilariously out of date and impractical.
