Georgia Sets New Record For New Coronavirus Cases https://atlanta.cbslocal.com/2020/06/22/georgia-coronavirus-new-record/
Wattsupwiththat --- for COVID-19 data is a complete joke. Ignoring that deaths in Georgia are delayed 14 days in reporting. This is so that their re-open governor can show a decline in the near-term but is always get re-adjusted to be either rising or flat three weeks later.
Georgia --- a disaster so bad that even the Trump administration is calling for stricter COVID measures in the state... Coronavirus spread in Georgia is 'widespread and expanding,' says report https://news.yahoo.com/coronavirus-spread-georgia-widespread-expanding-160600421.html A White House task force report warns that the coronavirus spread in Georgia is "widespread and expanding" and "strongly recommends" a statewide mask mandate, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, which obtained the report. Republican Gov. Brian Kemp was to sign a new order Saturday that would allow local governments to mandate masks, but only on their publicly-owned property, not at private businesses. "My new Executive Order will protect property rights for all hardworking Georgians," Kemp tweeted Friday. Although Georgia remains without a statewide mask mandate, the governor on Saturday said residents are urged to wear face coverings and take other precautions. "To keep moving in the right direction, we are urging all Georgians to wear a mask, practice social distancing, wash their hands, and follow guidance" from the Georgia Department of Public Health, Kemp tweeted. The Aug. 9 task force report also urged leaders in Georgia to close down bars, night clubs and gyms in high-risk counties to help stop the viral spread, the Journal-Constitution reported. The number of coronavirus cases in Georgia shot up to nearly 235,200 on Saturday, making it the fifth-highest after California, Florida, Texas and New York. The rise in new cases has declined slightly over the past two weeks, but the state has seen an uptick in coronavirus deaths, according to an NBC News tally. Nearly 4,700 people in Georgia have been killed by the virus, according to state data. Against this backdrop, the state reopened many of its schools for in-person learning. In Cherokee County, where students returned to school last week, there are now at least 110 confirmed coronavirus cases, resulting in over 1,600 students and staff in quarantine. Georgia reported its youngest coronavirus fatality, a 7-year-old boy, as schools were reopening last week. On Saturday, a 15-year-old became the second-youngest person reported to have died from COVID-19 in the state. Both boys had no underlying health conditions, according to the state Department of Public Health. More schools around the country are expected to reopen for in-person learning, while the national count of coronavirus cases has surpassed 5.3 million, with nearly 170,000 deaths. In New York City, the nation's largest school district plans to reopen with a nurse in every school building. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Saturday that the state recorded its lowest number of coronavirus hospitalizations since March 17. Hospitalizations have dropped to 523 in the state, Cuomo said. New York confirmed 734 new coronavirus cases Friday, bringing its statewide total to 424,901, and reported just five new deaths.
This is a crucial issue because I know in my area all the private businesses required masks on their premises to protect their workers, themselves and also provide a safe environment for their customers to come back (plexiglass, cleaning). It was proactive actions on the part of the businesses. If Georgia goverment feels masks are necessary to slow down the spread along with social distancing and proper cleaning but private business all together do not want to require masks or any of that, than it is putting a bow on a sick pig that will keep getting sicker. In my area I went to several restaurants, kayaking on a river and a town center with stores and restaurants and all wearing masks, all social distancing inside, plenty of protective equipment and hand sanitizers all around and it was nice to see businesses open and earning money and employing people. I felt safe seeing all of us pitching in. No suprise cases/deaths in this densely populated area remaining at managable levels and declining. Our only issue right now is positivity rate is still hovering at 7% but I believe this is statewide and not in my immediate area. If we can get the positivity rate down to 1-2% like NY now, we can keep moving forward.
On Canadian news just now; the number of cases of Covid that children are getting in the US is now growing, suggesting the school closures and lock downs earlier this year kept this under control. Also, of the children who get hospitalized with Covid, 1/3 go into the ICU, the exact same proportion as adults. Not great news for those who have been pushing the narrative that the kids are fine concerning Covid.
I doubt it's just for profit education lobbying the WH for reopen schools. There's plenty of healthcare and insurance money to be made in pediatric care.
Covid in the US is a spectacle to behold but it's hard to care when so many Americans remain reckless and seemingly don't care about the grim consequences themselves. Just seems to be like gun violence as long as it's not their community or their family they pretend it's not real. 200 deaths in a day due to Covid in Florida is just another day in paradise according to some on here. I suspect the tipping point would be kids though. Wouldn't take many critically sick kids at all to shift public sentiment. Tragic all the way around in my perspective even an 80 year old might have 15 more really good years coming.
