Georgia's reopening is a high-stakes public health bet -- and will likely please Trump

I do not know about all the number stuff you guys are talking about. I am actually in Georgia now and things are going great. People are starting to come out and things are slowly returning to normal - slowly. Unfortunately you just do not turn on a switch and everything is back to normal.

Say what you like about anything - but Governor Brian Kemp had the balls to say lets do it - and things are progressing well.

It is true that the requirements for businesses to open up are stringent and many businesses just can't do it.

Still - God Bless Governor Brain Kemp. He is a true American.

Not like some people like the mayor of Atlanta - keisha lance bottoms (I kid you not that is her name) and others.

"Mom is it safe to come out of the basement?" "Not yet Joe."

The Reproductive Number is R with mitigation at time T with T greater than zero.

R0 is the Raw reproductive number with no mitigation at time zero. There is only one value for R0 of a disease.

Even the material you posted previously explains this.

Georgia is doing great. Unlike New York, California, and Michigan.

Nothing I recall posting or reading ever said the R0 is universal. I posted things explaining to you that populations which are not homogenous would not be expected to have the same R0.

    With a Corona virus ...

A City with millions of old people with poor immune systems packed into subways and buildings with poor ventilation is going to have a much different R0 than a city along a cost that is widely spaced where everyone is fit...

yet the virus could be brand new (so no mitigation) and it could be time zero.

How anyone with a brain could think R0 for all viruses is universal is baffling to me. Virus target and impact different people and populations differently.

You said it. Extreme liberal states want the rest of us to bail them out while, their Democrat governors collude to keep their states shutdown. Wait when they finally, open up and all the jobs are gone and then, they have to pay higher taxes. California should be the first one to demonstrate the wisdom of the panic and hysteria Governor Gavin Newsom continues to whip up and his bogus opening up of the economy with curbside pickup of books, toys, take out orders? It is already facing 4.3 million in job losses, 10% pay cut for all state employees, $2.4 billion obligation to Calpers for the pensions of state employees not paid. That is just for starters. The huge tax increases is coming as California has no monies left. That means increased sales taxes, currently, at 11.0%, property taxes, gasoline taxes, over $1 per gallon right now, vehicle registration which probably, will double even for 20 year old cars.

Didn't you hear? The only reason Georgia is doing great is because no one is listening to Kemp and they're all hiding inside. Adaptive modeling, and all that.

All the intensive care units are full, or something. GWB can tell us, he's got family in the medical business.

Democrat governors are losing the lockdown battle although, you would not know it from extreme liberal media. If there is any single issue that turns a lot of voters to vote for President Donald Trump, it is the permanent loss of jobs resulting from the Democrat states lockdowns. People are not going to miss that one, right in front of their faces.

Most restaurants are open for eat-in dining in North Carolina including all the franchise chains. How come the majority are still closed for eat-in dining in Georgia one month after their re-opening?

It must be because they don't trust the governor! Can't possibly be any other reason, right?

Maybe the businesses and citizens do not trust the governor's administration which deliberately fabricated data in a wholesale manner.

Is there any of other state where the business oriented Chamber of Commerce told the governor that he was moving too fast with re-opening and the governor's plan was not the best for business.

We can only hope that summer weather arriving has a beneficial effect of reducing COVID-19 spread. Hopefully it is similar to the seasonal flu and hot weather reduces the cases. This would be very beneficial in the U.S. South.
