The circus continues... I guess molesting the aide you are attempting to hire does not go over very well.

George Santos – news: Would-be House aide accuses congressman of sexual harassment and ethics violations
The man accusing the congressman said on Twitter that the “facts will speak for themselves”

Embattled Republican congressman George Santos has been accused of ethics violations and sexual harassment, per a letter the alleged victim sent to the House Committee on Ethics and also posted to Twitter on Friday.

Derek Myers claims he briefly worked in Mr Santos’s office and that he had a job offer there rescinded earlier this week, according to a report in The New York Times.

In the letter sent to the House Committee, Mr Myers alleges that he was alone with Mr Santos in his office on 25 January when the congressman invited him to karaoke and touched his groin; the congressman also allegedly asked if Mr Myers had an account on Grindr, a popular queer dating app.

A spokeswoman for Representative Susan Wild, ranking member of the House Ethics Committee, confirmed to The Times that this letter had been received by her office. Mr Myers wrote in his now-viral Twitter thread that “these matters will not be litigated on social media or through news media.”

“They are serious offenses and the evidence and facts will speak for themselves if the committee takes up the matter. This tweet is being made public in light of transparency,” he said.

Mr Myers also alleges that the harassment he claims to have experienced occurred five days before he secretly recorded Mr Santos.

Earlier this week, bombshell secret tapes caught Mr Santos admitting that he “lied to everyone” following a wave of allegations and admissions that he fabricated most of his professional profile and resume before he was elected in November.

In the audio obtained by Talking Points Memo, Mr Santos is heard telling a prospective staffer that he had lied, including to his chief of staff Charley Lovett.

“I’ve obviously f***** up and lied to him, like I lied to everyone else,” he says in the audio. “And he still forgave me and gave me a second shot, unlike some other people.”

In the recording, Mr Santos is also heard offering advice about Botox, saying: “Stop going to Colombia for your diluted Botox.”

  4. Attacking, firing, and demonizing people- such as the guest- who are using their congressional office to advance a legitimate public purpose is not the way to address issues with Santos.

I tend to agree with you. However if your Congressional representative is so toxic that people get fired simply for being his guest... it is a pretty bad sign for the representative.

This also gets into an entire Cancel Culture conversation.

Nothing more than a complete scam artist -- including all of his improperly spent, unaccountable campaign funds. The financial issues with his campaign may be the only lever to get him kicked out of office via an ethics investigation. Apparently a politician lying their ass off about everything else does not violate ethics.

“George Santos and the Case of the Missing $365,000”
    https://electionlawblog.org/?p=134677

    NYT:

Representative George Santos has spent his campaign money in plenty of conspicuous ways, from lavish hotel stays in Las Vegas and Palm Beach, Fla., to an unusual slew of payments for exactly $199.99 — two cents below the threshold where receipts would be required.

But deep within Mr. Santos’s campaign filings, The New York Times found another eye-catching number: $365,399.08 in unexplained spending, with no record of where it went or for what purpose.

The mysterious expenditures, which list no recipient and offer no receipts, account for nearly 12 percent of the Santos campaign’s total reported expenses — many times exceeding what is typical for congressional candidates. Fellow New York House members, for example, failed to itemize between zero and 2 percent of their expenses this past cycle.

Without explanations for each expenditure in the reports filed with the Federal Election Commission, it’s impossible to determine if Mr. Santos spent campaign funds on legitimate election-related purposes.

Election law experts said that the $365,000 in unexplained expenses was not necessarily illegal but suggested a pattern of remarkable sloppiness, if not an attempt to cover up improper spending that violated campaign finance laws.

The unexplained spending is among a litany of irregularities found in nearly every aspect of how the Santos campaign handled its finances, The Times found.

Was it a PR move for Romney

The book will be called Romney: A Reckoning and will be published in October. News of its release comes after the senator made headlines by confronting George Santos, the New York fabulist who has rocked the House Republican party, before Joe Biden’s State of the Union address.
