Well, Cheney did declare, in no uncertain terms, that deficits (and therefore, presumably, the accumulating national debt that follows) don't matter. Evidently, this is a Bush Administration guiding principle. So, let's summarize: Deficits don't matter. The environment doesn't matter. The truth doesn't matter. Cutting edge scientific research doesn't matter. The true underlying health of the economy doesn't matter. The people don't matter. But religion? Oh, that matters! Jesus speaks to George, don't you know. Surely you are not suggesting that we second-guess God, are you?
