HOW big will Tony's fine be? If any? If i was GY i would be demanding my money back from NASCAR...Its not just that he beat them up...but he plugged two other companies!!! Think about this: out of millions of race fans who saw that...how many may be getting tires this week and how many of them might ask for Hoosier or Firestone instead??
Yeah, he better be careful and not pi** off NASCAR. If he gets suspended or booted outta NASCAR, he's done racing cuz he's gettin' too fat to fit in just about any other car.
I don't understand why providing tires for the new car is so different than the old one. Re the Carl Edwards penalty from Vegas, can anyone explain exactly where the oil box cover is on the car? I thought the oil reservoir was inside the car, so I am confused about how the cover not being on gave them an aero advantage. Finally, re Tony Stewart's comments. I found it ironic that he was complaining about the tire being too hard. Who are probably the best drivers in NASCAR at handling a loose car? I would say Kyle Busch, Smoke, Biffle and Gordon. Busch and smoke finished 1-2, and Biffle and Gordon were 4-5. I would say a hard tire that has the car skittering all over the track gives a huge benefit to the 18 and 20 teams, and in general rewards the best drivers.
The Science of Oil Tank Covers goes into great detail about how one gains an advantage, and by the end of the article, you'll see how the #99 team had to have know it in advance. NASCAR should have pulled the win from the #99 Team - IMNSHO. - Spydertrader
great stuff Spyder. I figured you would know. The key is the oil tank cover is open to the bottom of the car, and therefore provides a route for air trapped under the car to escape, if the cover is off, reducing lift. If the car wrecked and the oil tank somehow broke loose and ruptured, not having the cover on the enclosure could lead to the drive getting a bath in boiling oil or a big fire. Not cool at all. I tend to agree that they should have taken the win away. They did take the points, but wins count in final seedings. Clearly this was an unfair advantage and it seems hard to believe it was a simple mistake. I wonder if they didn't design it so it would lift off at speed but appear to be attached at rest. They had to know inspectors would catch it if it was just totally off the tank. Whatever. "If you ain't cheatin' you ain't tryin'."
It has already been announced that even though Carl keeps the win on record, it won't be counted toward his seed in the Chase.
