If there was any doubt that Hamilton is the most fearless and opportunistic driver in F1, watch the start of todays F1 race at Monza. He literally drove a encompassing circle around Massa to regain his P2 position after the Brazilian (P3) got off the line just enough better to snatch the initial position down the straight. Passed Massa on the outside going into the first turn and then trumped Kimi later in the race going deep into the turn from waaay back and catching the Finn by surprise. Wow -- this kid is something. I'm sticking with my original prediction of: 1. Stewart 2. Gordon At least that's what I THINK I predicted... too lazy to go back and check this morning.
McLaren excluded for two years. Not sure what the evidence was, but evidently pretty damning. Not sure about an appeal process. http://www.planet-f1.com/story/0,18954,3213_2726626,00.html
they're supposedly releasing their findings soon. here's a bit on the background: http://sport.guardian.co.uk/motorsport/story/0,,2167691,00.html the initial reports said they were stripped of constructors points for 2007 -- they hadn't decided on 2008. another year would be devastating. and we'll have to see how that affects sponsorship. on top of all that, Alonso has one foot out the door already, and Hamilton must be reviewing his options.
Ok, I know there are that many F1 fans on this forum, but for those that are there I've got a question. (as an aside to the following, I am a fan of McLaren and also have been of fan of Alonso as he battled with Michael the last few years) For the life of me I can't figure out how the heck Alonso wasn't disqualified from the driver's championship. During the initial FIA investigation it was determined that inside McLaren, only Coughlin had access to the Ferrari information. Then Ron learns the details from Alonso, does the right thing, calls Max and says "Alonso and Pedro had and utilized the information". (yes, it's a bit more complicated than that, but I only have so much time). In response to the above, McLaren is out of the constructor's championship, but Alonso is still in the hunt. How is it that the ONE driver that broke the rules by actually USING the information is still allowed to compete? I just don't get it. JB
