Spyder, I agree. Normally a fuel economy run is the worst, but last night had some drama. I'm sure the crew chiefs employed your reasoning as to gaining or protecting their points position, but they could have looked at it another way. With Gordon out, they weren't going to lose ground to him, even if they rolled the dice and crapped out. Also, Johnson had messed up his stop and lost a lot of ground. It's been a while since Big Orange saw victory lane as well, plus the new points system rewards you for wins. Tough decision for Zippy. They probably made the right call, but they have to look at it as one that slipped away from them.
Another opportunity lost for Gibbs despite top-10s. Yeley finishes second, but upset he has to defend his job. - Spydertrader
Yeley is upset he has to defend his job? Does he think he is just entitled to a ride in a top car? He has produced bumpus in over two years. Now he is a rock star because he got lucky on gas? Unless he makes the Chase and maybe wins a couple of races, he is gone for sure. Look what happened with the 11 car. It was a backmarker, had trouble making fields when the 20 was winning a championship. Then they put an unknown named Denny Hamlin in it, and he immediately became a contender. There are plenty of top drivers who would love that ride. And maybe a Denny Hamlin or two as well. There are already rumors that they have their eyes on Ryan Newman, although i'm not sure putting him and Stewart on the same team is a brilliant idea. And somehow, I think Coach Gibbs might just be able to get over his reluctance to have a certain beer company as a sponsor. They need a four car team to be in the same league with Hendrick.
Juan Pablo is already here, but as I predicted in this post, he still needs a little work (O.K., a lot of work). The man is the new Geoffrey Bodine. - Spydertrader
Worst driver in NASCAR. Worse than Robby Gordon even. Makes Yeley look like the return of Bobby Allison. Could take driving lessons from Guililand. Outclassed in Busch races.
Ha! Agree with the Montoya comment. Thought the Robby comment was a little rough though! He's a heck of a road course driver.
