Some have disputed this claim. did a little digging into the subject and indeed generic drugs are required to have same amount of active ingredient etc as a brand name.

Personally i would feel better paying some extra for the brand name.

  2. I take drugs for asthma which has serious symptoms if I don't take my meds and I've noticed some serious differences in some generics versus the original drug.

I was in that industry, not drugs really but implantables. I worked with lots of people over the years that had been in the drug industry. I learned of instances where the process for making the drug was not fully documented by the original producers of the drug and then not fully transferred to the generic manufacturer. There were cases where the generic drug was completely innefectual until they found out how to tweak the process!! Worse than that people were taking a nearly completely unknown drug with no track record of the side effects.
