GBA's "2021 Stock Phantasma"

Discussion in 'Stocks' started by stonedinvestor, Jan 1, 2021.

  1. What happened
Shares of autonomous trucking tech start-up TuSimple Holdings(NASDAQ:TSP)were on fire today, jumping a staggering 27.8% as of 1:40 p.m. EDT. The stock started to reverse course on Aug. 16 after a precipitous decline, and there's just been no stopping it. The stock is now up a jaw-dropping 62% since.

    So what
There was no news at all from or about TuSimple today, so what set the stock on fire? Four things, I'd say: a short squeeze, investor perception, a driver crunch in the trucking industry, and China.

Let's start with the last. After greater scrutiny from regulatory authorities that led to nerve-racking volatility in Chinese stocks in recent weeks, CNBC reported today that China could finally slow down its pace of new regulations now that it has passed a data protection law. For now, that seems to have abated fears about Chinese stocks. Although TuSimple primarily operates in the U.S., it has operations in China and considers the nation a key growth region.

Meanwhile, TuSimple bulls and bears are walking a tightrope. The stock was under a lockup period until some days ago that prevented certain investors from selling their shares.Short-sellersdived all-in as the lockup neared its end in anticipation that the stock would crash thereafter. As of July 29, nearly 7.4 million shares of TuSimple were shorted.

The reverse actually happened. Shares are headed for the skies ever since the lockup period expired, triggering a massiveshort squeezeas short-sellers are scrambling to close out their positions, sending the stock price even higher today.

Bears perhaps didn't take Cathie Wood's interest in TuSimple seriously. The ARK Invest CEO, whose stock market moves are closely watched, is piling up TuSimple shares.ARK Innovation ETF(NYSEMKT:ARKK)has been buying them consistently since Aug. 9, with the last trade reported on Aug 20, whileARK Industrial Innovation ETF (NYSEMKT:ARKQ)first bought the stock on July 26.

As if Cathie Wood's attention on autonomous technology weren't enough, more and more industry reports are confirming how big the driver crunch is turning out to be. Just days ago, Eric Fuller, CEO of truckload carrierU.S. Xpress Enterprises (NYSE:USX), told Yahoo! Finance that the ongoing driver shortage is the worst he's seen in his entire career.

Driver shortages are compelling trucking companies to chalk out alternative strategies for the long term. TuSimple's autonomous-driving software for trucks is being looked upon as part of a solution to a big problem. In fact, U.S. Xpress itself is invested in TuSimple!

    Now what
As the first autonomous-trucking software company to go public, TuSimple certainly has an edge. Any stock targeted by short-sellers, especially if it recently went public, is bound to be volatile. But with big investors and partners putting their weight behind TuSimple, you might want to pay attention to the stock's long-term story as it builds.

    $16

Then what happens? Slinger waits on all of the bags to break in a few years?
You're gonna say "No, all the kids will want to have their own".
    Lol... whatever.
Like I said, a $98,000,000 market cap company shouldn't need to have an emergency cash infusion that they have to borrow at 12% and the lender is demanding it back in 30 days.
Call me skeptical Stoney.... and if you do own it, you may get lucky on a pump and dump, but you better be one of the ones dumping this thing.

I told you so. It's within 10% of its 52 week low.

$CPRT on the other hand is within 3.5% of an all time high.
I wonder why that is.... hmmmmm?
Maybe you should go back and look at all those pretty pictures I posted.

You do this just to bait me I know.
    It's a 180 day lock-up period from 3/11
    That would be 9/9 Stoney.

And Jane, man it is involved, but I think its safe to say there are gonna be a boat-load of shares coming off that lock-up.
    One source says 120M
    I don't think they're right.
I don't think anyone can figure the damn thing out. That's why your searches too did not yield anything.

  7. Van, what do you make of the ZHDG ETF? Took out its 52 Week high, also been holding the SPRT $10s and $12s after volume exploded. Need some Xanax after playing RGC from $35 to $50.32. Do you think the chart says RGC might go to $60? Its pure pump and dump, another ORCH that went from $6 to $78 down to $6 again.

EDIT: Been with DYAI since $4.6 they got some type of agreement with MRNAi tech? Looks like you and Stoney are killing it!
